How do I insert HTML code into a document?

I'm used to Word and I'd hate to have to give in and buy office for the mac. Please oh Please don't make me.... whaaaaa

I want to insert some html code into the document so I can use the one I've created as a replacement for a webpage I'm working on. This may be beyond the scope of Pages but I know in word I can actually modify the underlying html code making up the document. Pages must have something of the sort, after all, the templates are made up of some kind of code to get those nice layouts and to allow insertion of address information and page numbers.

Is there a way for me to insert some simple HTML code into a pages document?

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for...

If you are looking to create an html version of your Pages document, I believe the answer is that it can't be done. Here are some other posts (found by searching the Pages discussions using search terms such as 'html code' or 'insert html') that might help you:

The underlying code in Pages is xml. If you go to a Pages file and click "Show package contents" you will see a gzipped file 'index.xml.gz'. Extract this and have a look see at what is in there.

I guess my confusion in your post is in regards to your request to put 'some' code into a Pages document to use it as a website. I'm assuming that the end format would be 'all' html, so I'm puzzled regarding using some text and some html. You must have an end format for your webpage other than a Pages document, correct? Perhaps you want the functionality of html inside the document and then want to export it all as html? If so, the above posts will take care of that question.

I might suggest simply using a tool more specifically geared toward creating web pages. Perhaps you could try iWeb or one that Yvan Koenig has recommended many times, Kompozer ( http://www.kompozer.net/download.php), a great freeware program. These programs are specifically designed to create webpages vs. trying to force Pages into doing something it wasn't intended to do.

Lastly, it appears that you can export Keynote presentations as html. Perhaps you could create what you're looking for in Keynote and then export it that way if you must go the iWork route.

Sorry if my response isn't what you're looking for!
