Controlling iPod with my car (Honda Element) stereo

Greetings.

Just bought a new Element, which has an AUX input, and, according to the manual, the car stereo can control an MP3 player functions.

Is there a dock connector to mini which will enable this function, another connector/dock, or do I have to use my mini-mini cable and use the iPod wheel?

Hi

I just tried all this yesterday...with my new ipod classic and my 2006 Honda Civic. It also has the mini plug built in. I bought a mini to mini $7 at Future Shop (mini is the earplug plug, right?) Then plugged it all in and with AUX/CD on...I think I pushed it twice to get AUX...it worked great. Able to adjust volume with ipod only.

I can do that, too. Mini to mini aux input. I had thought that the Element owner's manual, said the car stereo controls can control the iPod functions the same way my iPod dock controls it. But the car radio installer says that won't work.

Back to the mini-mini.

You can play an iPod (or an MP3 Player) through the AUX connection, but you cannot control the iPod or MP3 player using the stereo controls or steering wheel controls.

Reportedly, some 2009 Honda models will have factory USB connection, which I have to believe would include control of iPod functions. For example, the 2009 Fit will have a "USB audio interface compatible with iPod and USB storage devices":
