In Itunes button marked Enable disk use is greyed out

Im trying to eject a friends Ipod from my computer. Enable disk use is dimmed. Ive read the "enable disk use dimmed in preferences" article. The articles states...To disable the "Enable disk use" option, select either "Automatically update all songs and playlists" or "Automatically update selected playlists only."

1- I cant find where to select either of these options
2- When i attempt to uncheck manually manage songs, it warns me that if i proceed it will erase my friends ipod. I absolutely cannot afford to erase his Ipod

Can anyone please help?

As Patrick said, if that button is grayed out, you're in manual sync mode and disk use is automatically included with that.

So you don't need to check that box, in other words.

You only need to check it if you are auto syncing and want to put some other kind of non-itunes files on the iPod.

Im not wanting to check the box, i need to uncheck the box. But it will erase the contents of his ipod. The reason i need to uncheck it is so that the ipod will eject. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

I have definitely tried clicking eject next to the ipod icon and at the bottom right corner of the itunes window. and every time i do i get a pop up window that says "Cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."

I don't think that box has anything to do with ejecting the ipod.

Just close itunes and use windows to eject the ipod.
