OSX 10.5.3 still having kernel panic with Bluetooth audio

After upgrading to OSX 10.5.3 yesterday I thought I'd give bluetooth audio a chance again (I already had problems with 10.5.2, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1529536&tstart=0). After a while my machine crashed again (the screen turns grey and I was instructed to hold the power button). This time I was trying to listen to iTunes over the bluetooth headphones (so the Plantronics in headphone mode).

After restarting the problem report sent to Apple is:

Is it just me who is having these problems? It really amazes me that I am just not able to use bluetooth audio - headset nor headphones - without this rather significant problem? And then I don't even begin about the mouse getting the hiccups the moment the headset is turned on. I would have expected lots of complaints about this?

I am on 10.5.4, Plantronics Voyager 520, using with Skype - did not have KP till today morning and then suddenly 2 today!

I am sure there is a config somewhere to prevent overflow or something - may be trash / recreate / reinstall a .plist / .kext something. Am sure its not a hardware specific issue... typically the hardware is solid.

I have tried reinstalling the set, but to no avail.

Wondering if anyone has tried anything else?

I'm having the same problem with my Sony DR-BT30Q bluetooth headset. I've gotten the grey screen of death and had to reboot holding the power button down 😟

I noticed that in the Activity Monitor it said that the bluetooth audio services were not working and in red text. But for some reason my headset was still putting out sound.

Also, I noticed that if I don't connect my wireless mighty mouse before turning on my Sony DR-BT30Q then my MBP will simply not connect to my mouse.

Sometimes I have to turn the Sony DR-BT30Q on and off several times to get a good clear connection otherwise there is varying degrees of static.

If I'm using iTunes and shut off the Sony DR-BT30Q then iTunes will crash and then restart automatically but will not respond to quitting or even force quitting iTunes.

I find it pretty strange that a failure in the bluetooth services will bring the entire system to it's knees.

I've used the Sony bluetooth headset in the past with my PowerBook 12" 867MHz and wireless Apple mouse (not mighty mouse) and had no problems besides sometimes getting a little jerkiness in the mouse movement that was easily fixed by just turning it off and then on again.

I hope Apple makes a fix for this problem soon since there seems to be a lot of people with bluetooth headsets that are having LOTS of problems.

True.... but it doesn't cost to post and there is always a chance someone might have found a solution or headset that works 🙂

If it is a universal problem then surely there is a chance Apple will get around to fixing it sooner than otherwise? I've thrown quite a bit of money at this now and every time someone new comes in the office I ask "can I try your headset?"..... lost count of how many I've tried, no success.

I suffer from this problem as well. On a Powerbook G4 running 10.5.4 and on a Mac Mini running 10.5.4. Same as everyone else describes, when using the headset (mostly with Skype) I consistently get Kernel Panics. Strangely enough, the only system that it works on is my "Hackintosh" (running 10.5.4 on a Dell desktop computer.... yeah I know it's not technically legal). I have a D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth adapter that OS X recognizes natively. I never get KPs while using Skype on that system.

I like being able to use the wireless headset but I think I may just go with a wired solution. I'm not confident a solution will be found soon... this has been a problem for a long time.

I too am getting loud clicking noises on input when trying to use my BT headset. In my case it's a plantronics 925. If I reboot (mac pro) the first use works with no noise, then after a little while the clicking starts up and builds to a crescendo. Also if I touch the input level adjuster at all it immediately starts the clicking noise and the mic is useless.
