Logic Pro 8.02 and Leopard 10.5.3 and M-Audio FireWire 410

I have an M-Audio FireWire 410 connected to my MBP. This setup used to work pretty well with Logic Pro.

Since installing Leopard 10.5.3, I'm having zero luck recording audio with Logic Pro or *anything else*, for that matter (I've also tried Soundtrack Pro and Audacity). I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the latest version of M-Audio's drivers (version 1.8.3), but to no avail.

In Logic Pro, I can choose "FireWire 410 Multichannel", but I can't select any of the specific inputs on the 410 for a track.

Playback works just fine on everything, though.

I know this isn't a hardware issue, as I've BootCamp'd into Windows XP with the same hardware and have successfully recorded using Adobe Audition 2.0.

Anyone else having any luck with this particular combination? Or am I out of luck until M-Audio releases a specific driver for 10.5.3?

Thanks,
Scott

Interestingly enough, it looks like M-Audio just updated their site today and have removed the BETA version that you all have referenced. They have also added a menu item in the right-hand pane for "10.5.3", but when you click it in combination with choosing the 410 you simply get 1.8.3-8, the same version I already have running on 10.5.2. At least, the name is the same and the date is the old 5/16 date that corresponded to it.

Do I dare upgrade to 10.5.3 and pray that my 410 keeps working? I have cloned the drive, done TM backups, etc. but I just don't wanna deal with the pain of having this fail. It appears that the folks at M-Audio now believe that 1.8.3-8 is proper for 10.5.3. Do I dare attempt it? Ughhh...

Thoughts?

Hi

After posting in this forum a couple of weeks ago to try an get my 410 working with 10.5.3 i finally managed. However it has come to my attention that there is one problem i have had with my 410 since the day i bought it over a year ago. With the monitors up and all volume levels up there is the most awful mono tonal feedback taking place with crackling and sound distortion. Worst still...IT COMES OUT ON THE RECORDINGS of ANYTHING involving using audio. Currently i have my firewire connected up to a Yamaha PSR3000 keyboard. All i want to do is record in SILENCE into garageband or logic but no, such a simple thing is not allowed (despite being what the **** thing is designed to do!). If anybody isn't sure what the feedback i describe sounds like i have actually managed to RECORD it so i can email it to somebody so they can hear it AND hear that when i try to record the keyboard playing it still does it and remains IN the background on the recording. I have reset the FW410 and reinstalled it and adjusted volume levels both WITHIN the softeware and on the 410 mixer umpteen times but the feedback still remains....any help much appreciated!! thanks!!

Have you contacted M-Audio support? They will take you through things over the phone. It may be that you have a hardware issue.

Also, try connecting with only the 410 on the FW bus, and try futzing around with the settings on the hardware page, specifically the same rate (it displayed in green it's ok, if it's in red, futz with the settings on that page until it goes green at 44KHz.)

thank you i will try that. It seems to behave differently everytime i switch the mac on. At the moment it IS green and it is showing sound coming through from a song i'm playing in itunes but no sound is coming out at all - and all this is ASIDE from the recording issues i mentioned earlier! You are right...i need to call M AUDIO

THanks!!

So jserafi,

You mentioned that you finally got the 410 working with 10.5.3...what was the fix ultimately? I'm curious, as Ive said, because I am hesitant in going to 10.5.3 given your and other earlier tribulations.

But again, not sure if you guys saw my earlier post, but M-Audio has removed the -6 BETA driver completely now, and lists 10.5.3 as an option in their dropdown now, and when you click it and the 410, it just gives you the -8 driver that most of us have been using for a while now under 10.5.2. I hope they are right that it applies just fine to 10.5.3 also.

Thanks guys for sharing all this info, it's good to know I'm not the only dude with a 410.

Peace,
-B

Ok. It seems that everything is fine now, for everybody!

First:
Have you noticed that the drivers for Leopard 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 are the same? They have the same date and build number!

Second:
If you have problems go to your M-Audio FireWire 410 settings and click RESET !
That is going to solve a LOT of problems, for example a weak signal recording audio.

Cheers,

Rod

So i wake up this morning and i switch on my mac and think...oh...the blue light isn't flashing on the 410..everything is fine. I try to play a track in itunes and guess what? no sound at all. I load up the 410 mixer and there is signal from the track coming through fine but i can't hear anything. I fiddle with all the settings...reset the box 5 times...even turn it on and off...the sample rate keeps changing periodically from red to green depending on whether i make the sync source internal or external but either way there is still no sound.

Can somebody please suggest another digibox for me to buy because i just can't cope with this anymore. I'm a composer of music for film and tv with deadlines to meet and this is adding more stress to me than you can imagine. I need to go with something else....it's a fact!

Did you check the M-Audio page before posting that? There is a new non beta driver out for the 410 and 10.5.3 that's been on there for a few days. I haven't tried it out yet, but might be worth a shot before the 410 goes out the window.

BTW, I also have an Ultralite, and it is an awesome piece. Much better than the 410.

Good Luck!

I have downloaded the 10.5.3 driver and guess what? Still not working and when it does work, it works for less than 2 mins, then cracks off and disappears. i have tried installing and uninstalling the 410 tens of times now and still i have the same problems.

you said you have the ultralite. Will that work with 10.5.3 or even 10.5.4 which has now just been released too?

Thanks!
