Logic Pro 8.02 and Leopard 10.5.3 and M-Audio FireWire 410

I have an M-Audio FireWire 410 connected to my MBP. This setup used to work pretty well with Logic Pro.

Since installing Leopard 10.5.3, I'm having zero luck recording audio with Logic Pro or *anything else*, for that matter (I've also tried Soundtrack Pro and Audacity). I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the latest version of M-Audio's drivers (version 1.8.3), but to no avail.

In Logic Pro, I can choose "FireWire 410 Multichannel", but I can't select any of the specific inputs on the 410 for a track.

Playback works just fine on everything, though.

I know this isn't a hardware issue, as I've BootCamp'd into Windows XP with the same hardware and have successfully recorded using Adobe Audition 2.0.

Anyone else having any luck with this particular combination? Or am I out of luck until M-Audio releases a specific driver for 10.5.3?

Thanks,
Scott

you said you have the ultralite. Will that work with 10.5.3 or even 10.5.4 which has now just been released too?

Thanks!

The Ultralite is an awesome piece, I've never had any issues with the build quality or drivers. They came out with a new driver last month, and I haven't tested it with 10.5.4, but it worked perfectly with 5.3, and I have no doubt that it works fine with 5.4 too. I've never had it NOT work, and I've used it through many versions of Tiger.

That being said, my 410 is working with Leopard too. I found this link on another thread, and I think you should check it out, becauase it might help you. It was posted on a thread about someone having issues with the 1814, but it's the same piece as the 410, except has a couple more ins and outs. Here's the link:

Here's the thread I found that link on:

Hope that helps. Good Luck!

I have downloaded the 10.5.3 driver and guess what? Still not working and when it does work, it works for less than 2 mins, then cracks off and disappears.

One more thing....do you have an external HD plugged into the same firewire bus? I've noticed that sometimes when I do, and I the HD starts searching or reading something, it will kick the 410 out. If you do, try using the 410 just with your internal HD and see if it lasts without cracking off. If so, that's your problem. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do to fix that! But try the suggestion in the link above too.

That's right folks...I'VE THROWN THE 410 AWAY....I AM SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK and tired of it.

Today i ordered a MOTU Ultralite - i've heard nothing but amazing reviews...not a single negative comment and in particular concerning how STABLE it is with OS X and evidently that is what i need.

My composing has been on hold for a month now and although i'll have to wait 2-4 weeks for the MOTU to arrive, at least i know i'll be able to get back up and running again and that is VITAL.

I PRAY PRAY i don't have any problems with the MOTU now!

Probably you did not read this. It solved all my problems. I guess is too late for you.

Firewire Audio Issues On Intel-based Mac Systems Running 10.4.11 & 10.5.4
If you've followed the standard troubleshooting procedure below for a clean install of the M-Audio FW drivers on 10.4.11 or 10.5.4 and you're still experiencing issues with your FireWire devices on your Intel-based Mac, please be sure that you're including the "model identifier" and FireWire chipset in your signature as outlined in this thread.

Model Identifier: APPLE MENU > ABOUT THIS MAC > MORE INFO > MODEL IDENTIFIER

FireWire chipset: Hold down "Command + S" on startup to boot your Mac into single user mode. The chipset info is listed next to OHCI FireWire and will be listed as TI [Texas Instruments], Lucent [Agere] or Agere.

You may also want to contact M-Audio technical support with this information.

If you purchased it in the US, simply submit an incident via our customer support portal

If you purchased it outside the US, please report the issue to your local distributor. You can find the appropriate contact information via our M-Audio Global Distributor Locater.

Try the following standard procedure for troubleshooting audio interfaces on Macintosh systems:

Before starting, disconnect all FireWire devices, including the M-Audio device, disable wireless & Bluetooth and repair your disk permissions.

Hard drive > Applications > Utilities Folder > Disk Utility

Choose Macintosh HD when the utility launches and click repair disk permissions on the First Aid Tab.

Zap your PRAM:

Hold down "Command + Option + P + R" while booting up the system. Continue holding this key combination until you here the start-up sound three times.

For more information on zapping the pram, please see this article.

Next, install the combo update of the version of OS X that you're running in order to update all of your system files. Please keep in mind that this is to ensure that there are no corrupted system files and it will not affect any of your personal files or any software that you have installed on your system; it will simply refresh your system files.

10.4.11 combo update

10.5.4 combo update

After installing the combo update, follow these steps to reinstall the M-Audio FireWire drivers* [Please follow them exactly]:

1. Repair disk permissions [again].
2. Uninstall the Specific M-Audio device driver using our latest driver download - Make sure that the device is disconnected.
3. Repair disk permissions.
4. Install the latest driver.
5. Repair disk permissions.
6. Shut down, connect your M-Audio device and restart. NEVER HOTPLUG YOUR FW AUDIO INTERFACE!

If you're connecting an M-Audio FireWire 410, 1814, Audiophile, Solo, Ozonic or ProFire Lighbridge, do NOT use the AC power adapter. If you're using the ProjectMix I/O, the NRV10 or ProFire 2626, the A/C power IS required.

Please test your M-Audio FireWire interface without any other FireWire devices connected, including any FireWire 800 devices. In addition, please leave your wireless and Bluetooth disabled for the test.

* NOTE: The "Family" drivers for the M-Audio FireWire 410, 1814, Audiophile, Solo, Ozonic, ProFire Lighbridge, ProjectMix I/O or the NRV10 CANNOT be installed on the same system as the ProFire 2626. Please use the latest FireWire Family to uninstall any previous installations of the Family drivers. Then, use the latest 2626 driver to remove any previous installations. Once both drivers have been removed, follow the standard troubleshooting for Mac outlined above.
