BTW, cwmx.com will ONLY work on EDGE, not on WiFi. And you can NOT include a username or password or it won't work.

I had that same problem with my bellsouth.net email. If you put mail.bellsouth.net in both incoming and outgoing it will work. I did that with my bellsouth.net email and it works on the WIFI. Hope that helps

Does this work for sending messages with the account when connected via a wi-fi network that is not using bellsouth as the internet service provider?

It worked using bellsouth.net when I set it up as a POP account. I was able to send and receive emails through WIFI without any difficulties when I put mail.bellsouth.net on both incoming and outgoing sections. I don't know about using another internet service provider as I have bellsouth but I guess you can try and see if it does work.

Doubtful it will work for sending when connected to the internet with another ISP besides BellSouth, and it probably won't work when connected via EDGE either.

This is the downside of an email account that does not have an authenticated SMTP server.

Disable mail sync in iTunes. This is overriding your settings.

hey i cant figure out how to set mine up in the first place. i put the incoming mail server as mail.bellsouth.net and the same with the outgoing server. i put my user name and password in the incoming, do i need it in the outgoing too? it says it cant connect with ssl and then when i say try without ssl, it wont work either

You need your username and password in the outgoing server also. SSL should be off.

well i got it to work (i think) and before i put my user name/ password in the outgoing i tried to send an email and it seemed to work. after i put the user name / password it just said connection to the outgoing server failed

If you are connected via WiFi on your own router it may not require a username and password. If you are using EDGE or some other WiFi network it then will not work, because bellsouth does not have an authenticated server accessible off their network.

When using EDGE you can send mail by putting "cwmx.com" in the SMTP (outgoing) mail server, with NO username or password. But this will only work with EDGE, not on any WiFi network.

When using non-BellSouth WiFi networks neither of these will work.

Thus, this is not a good solution as you must either change the outgoing server based on where you are or put in CWMX.COM and turn off WiFi when you want to send mail.

An alternative solution is to open a gmail account, set it to retrieve your BellSouth email (that's an option in Settings) and use the gmail SMTP server for sending. This will work on any WiFi network or on EDGE.

I didn't have any problems and I could check my bellsouth.net email on any network or wifi connections. So I think you have to make sure that the SSL is off in both settings. My email works on both edge and Wifi but it depends on the Wifi network.
