aTV connection issue with HDMI on Samsung LE40A558 LCD TV

Hello everyone,

I use an Apple TV with 2.0.2 software installed. It's using WiFi to connect to my home network, and HDMI to connect to my brand new Samsung LE40A558 LCD tv. I tried the three different HDMI ports on the TV and always get the same issue :
1- just after bootup, the Apple TV works fine. It works fine until I turn off the TV.
2- when I turn the TV back on, it shows me "Searching for signal". It goes back and forth from that information and eventually shows up the Apple TV display for just a second. This happens no matter I put the Apple TV to sleep or not. I need to reboot the Apple TV in order to enjoy it.

Any hint ?

Hi,

I've exactly the same problem with my LCD Samsung series 5. After trying changing HDMI cable without success I finally found a solution to this problem. In the Samsung service menu I've turned off two options: hotplug and hotplugctr. After this, my apple tv have started syncing immediately without reboot.
Probably a better solution would be found modifying the "hotplug delay" option but I didn't test it.

Google helped me to find how get service menu: with the TV in standby, press the INFO MENU MUTE POWER buttons on the remote.

Please note: I don't know about warranty related problem modifying this option but I think that could be a problem.

Bye, Marco

Hi,

I own a 52"Series 6 Samsung and I had the same problem
Thanks to Marco's answer above, I managed to solve the problem.

Just to add: to access Service Menu on this model :
1. Turn off the TV
2. Press 'Mute' '1' '8' '2' 'Power'
3. The TV will start and you will be in the SM (give it a few extra seconds).

Be careful not to mess with the other parameters.

The other solution to try it to set the 'input name' to PC. I am writing this from work so can't recall the exact menu names.

Go the the main Samsung menu, and choose the option where you can name the various inputs (such as naming Ext3 to be DVD) and name the ATV input to 'PC' - note sure why, but apparently doing so applies some settings to that particular input that solves the signal searching problem.

Hola!

and very well, here and elsewhere we find lots of information of how to enter the Service Menu for several Samsung TVs and they all involve some key sequence on the remote.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster T260 ( not HD, which would be teh TV version). It connects nicely with my ATV using HDMI. It however "features" the same HDMI problems as all you report.

I would like to check the hotplug fix in the service menu of the Samsung SyncMaster T260, but it does not have a remote!

Could anyone post the button sequence(s) for recent Samsung SyncMaster monitors?

As soon as I have that I will report back with my results (does hotplug disabling help with the HDMI problem?)

Cheers!
Justin

Similar to Techlifte, i too have an Olevia 37" that is having the exact same issue.

However, unlike GreenL2814.5....i just bought my Apple TV TODAY...so, given the fact that in the past 3 hours i've found hundreds of postings online with same issues across several brands of TV's (Samsung, Dynex, Westinghouse, Olevia)...unless i find a fix from someone out there soon - this thing is headed right back to Best Buy tomorrow. If it were just one brand i would blame my TV - but to see all the postings out there it's disappointing there isn't a fix from Apple, given my high level of confidence in their products.

There is NO WAY I'm going to unplug and re-plug-in Apple TV every time i want to use it...

Hi

I have a Series 6 Samsung 32" TV and had the same 'searching for signal' issue. I tried the suggested HDMI lead but no joy. I then tried all four HDMI ports on my Samsung TV... Still no joy....I then switched the input on the TV to PC as suggested on this mail trail and it worked..... 🙂 I was about to take it back but am now satisfied... Thank you all for the suggestions

Naming the HDMI input to PC didn't work for me.
Putting HotPlug to Off worked ! Thanks for the advice in this thread.

I have an LE32A557, aTV connected to HDMI1 via a PureLink HDMI 1.3 cable (1.5m length).

Procedure below.

Put the TV in stand by while viewing a working source, not the not working aTV. Otherwise the
SM is not displayed.

On the remote press the sequence: INFO, MENU, MUTE, POWER
From Service Menu Select (yellow): 1 OPTION TABEL(Service)
Select and change (right key): HotPlug Off
Return to SM press: MENU
Remove the SM (stand by) press: POWER

Afterwards you can switch the TV on and select sources, including the HDMI with the aTV, w/o the
"Searching for signals" issue.

just wanted to drop a quick note in here to thank integratedlifestyle for posting the above comment. i had been experiencing a delay when switching sources from anything to the Apple TV / HDMI source. I have a 50" Samsung Plasma and I would get the "no signal detected" message for atleast 5 seconds or more. I set the Apple TV to RGB High instead of Auto and now it switches over just as fast as it does to my Samsung DVD player!

Thanks again!
