ELP! keyboard problem still persists....

I don't know how many out there still have this problem

But for me, the missing first keystroke is still present after the 10.5.3 update and all the keyboard updates

It happens when the keyboard stays idle for about a minute and avoids the first key pressed afterwards

At least this was better than before when 2 or 3 or even complete words would be missing.

Now it's just one key.

Is there any more fixes I can try or does Apple think this problem is already solved?

Has anyone noticed the keyboard firmware that came out today.

Last week I contacted Applecare again and I sent my MBP in for another repair. When it came back, I couldn't believe it, they replaced the keyboard again. So I still had the problem.

I called Applecare again and was transfered twice, finally to a guy who seemed to be very knowledgeable. He had me try to reproduce the problem in safe mode, which I was able to do twice, while he did some research. After about a half hour, he gave me his number, said he would contact engineering and to call him Wednesday. if I hadn't heard from him.

Anyway, I hope this does the job. If it does I think I'll call him Wednesday to thank him. It's been a year and 7 months for me with this problem.

The firmware I got through software update the other day was the same 1.0 keyboard firmware we got originally Feb. 19, 2008. It doesn't make sense to me, but I think that update was only delivered to my machine after my service rep. contacted engineering. Is that possible?

Anyway, it didn't change anything. After the repairs I've had done and a long customer service phone call yesterday, my old 2.4 ghz MBP is gone and a new one is on the way. Applecare finally came through big time for me.

After all this time dealing with this, I don't think anyone knows why this problem exists. A new logic board would almost certainly take care of it, but I don't know.

Wish I could help.

I dealt with it almost 2 years.
I had my Logic Board, Ram, Keyboard, and connecting ribbons replaced.
I asked them if they were replacing the parts with refurbished, because they replaced my logic board twice for other reasons.
Nothing helped. And it only happened on the mac side.
I really wanted to run windows thru a virtual machine, but the elp issue was too much typo risk for the work I do.

I now have a Unibody 17 and have not had one hint of "elp"
I now work from the mac side and have been using a VM to run windows.
Finally! everthing is working just dandy.

There was just something mysteriously wrong with those certain MBP15" builds during that time.

1.5 years ago the "elp" issue was a flaming topic, not just here, but in other mac forums as well. We now have only a couple posts that show up here and there.
Giving even more credence that it was a certain batch of MBP's.

It's over. My two weeks old Unibody works like a dream and make the past two years with my 2007 model look like a horrible nightmare, that I will hopefully forget soon. Countless replacements of (expensive) parts through Apple Care could not improve the ELP matter nor any other attempt, you know the score as well as you know that many critical opinions and ideas got heavily censored in that period. To me it clearly was a flawed line. But now it's behind. The new Unibody on the other hand, is a piece of pure art and in some strange way I feel as if we, the people who were shouting loudest and spending stupid hours of doing so, despite censorship and humiliation, have somehow contributed to its existence. Maybe I have these thoughts only to make me feel better. I don't know. All I know is that I now have what I originally wanted. Apple, I will try to forgive you but please please don't do that again. We keep watching you. ; )

This had been bugging me for ages. Did the firmware upgrade and that worked for about 2 months, then back to the missing keystroke again. Upgraded to Snow leopard = had no effect.

However, I have just tried pulling the memory out, reseating it and then running the computer with the battery out. Haven't had a single dropped keystroke yet (touch wood).

Has anyone else tried running without the battery and did it work for long ?
