The Document could not be saved

Please help! I requoted a bunch of work because iPages was making it so fast and smooth, until now. Suddenly I can't save any of my work. I open a Word doc, make several changes, and when I try to save the message says "The document " __ " could not be saved as "name.pages". I have tried different names, different target drives and directories. I restarted, nothing works. I can export the pdf which is helpful, but if I ever need to make more changes I am screwed. I cannot export to Word. I tried, and it looks like it will work, then the progress bar zips across and the saved file is never found where I saved it.

Is this corruption? Or, maybe a Tiger thing? I think this is the first time I have tried this since upgrading.

I called Apple support to-day and received - as usual - lots of detailed help. The issue was documented by them.

It seems as though this may be a fonts issue: I can import - then save - an AppleWorks file into Pages where there have been no fonts which were in AW that are not also now in Pages. But where Pages reports an error (missing font) on Opening (and I Continue), I am subsequently unable to Save.

The Apple techs did suggest a workaround though: Once imported into Pages, an entire document (apparently including all its format) can be copied (cmnd-A --> cmnd-C) and pasted (cmnd-V) into a new, 'native', Pages document then always saved.

I'd be interested to hear from others whether the failure to save non-Native pages documents (e.g., Word) always happens when there are 'missing' (from Pages; but in the original document) fonts?

I'm hoping this will be escalated to Apple's iWork (Pages) techs as a future request 🙂
