kernel continually generating SIGSEGV messages

in my system log there keeps appearing an error message, generated by the kernel: "unknown SIGSEGV code 0" This is generated at very regular 20 second intervals, 2 at a time. SIGSEGV is a memory allocation error - how do I track down what is generating this error?

Mac Pro Quad 8, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I do have the same problem here starting this morning after starting from sleep.

"unknown SIGSEGV code 0" 2 times every 20 sec.

last message before this:

08.08.08 07:06:44 /Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher/Service/11.5.0/FNPLicensingService[3703] Started - This service performs licensing functions on behalf of FLEXnet enabled products.

08.08.08 07:06:44 kernel unknown SIGSEGV code 0
08.08.08 07:06:44 kernel unknown SIGSEGV code 0

Next I will try to reboot and check if this message has disappeared.

Regards,
Andy

Same issue here.

Going back through the system.log, these started Aug 25:

This problem is reproduceable, I got this messages today again after starting Adobe Acrobat 9.

09.09.08 21:00:57 /Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher/Service/11.5.0/FNPLicensingService[36869] Started - This service performs licensing functions on behalf of FLEXnet enabled products.

09.09.08 21:00:58 kernel unknown SIGSEGV code 0
09.09.08 21:00:58 kernel unknown SIGSEGV code 0

Who can help us? Adobe or their licensing provider Flexnet?

Sorry to revive this old thread. Found it on Search, since I have discovered the same problem. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with this.

Also it may be related to system lock-ups I have been having, with many (several hundred) "kernal unknown SIGSEGV code 0" entries in the console log just before the lock-ups.

As with the other posters, the entries start immediately after starting up Adobe Acrobat Pro or Photoshop CS4. Exactly 22 "SIGSEGV" entries are logged immediately, the 2 exactly every 20 minutes, ad infinitum.

I can quit the FNPLicensing process in the Activity Monitor, and so far as best I can tell, Acrobat Pro and Photoshop continue to run without problem.

I see the same situation on my MacPro and my MacBook Pro.

I am in the process of trying to contact Adobe for their thoughts, but no feedback there yet.

If you are running these Adobe programs, you can check for this by going to /Applications/Utilities/Console/All Messages.

I'm getting the same error message listed in the console.
I'm running Adobe Acobat Pro 9.0 - I am not running CS4 yet.

The problem crept up on me - Acrobat 9.0 seemed fine since I installed it several months ago, but something changed recently (today) and it's pathetically slow. It is redlining 1 out 4 CPU's to 100% in the activity monitor.

I've not taken any drastic measures to trouble shoot it - with the exception of the basic uninstall an drag copy reinstall.

I've not chased down preferences files/folders and other squirrely Adobe bits that might need to get tossed out for a fresh start.

It's killing me.

So - any advice is welcome.

Cheers,
jamie

I, too, am experiencing the very same messages, and my computer is quite unresponsive these days despite my having performed a thorough round of diagnostics and permissions repairs. The messages began showing up suspiciously close to the time that I upgraded to Photoshop CS4.

For example, this is what appears when I launch Photoshop:

It appears that my computer is generating one message per core at 20-second intervals while PS CS4 is running.

Adobe has had a history of memory allocation issues; I wonder if this is simply their latest implementation of that error.

Any suggestions as to a cause and/or correction would be most welcome.

I got rid of the problem, but it wasn't easy and I'm not sure what did it. The problems I was having were pretty bad and too difficult to pinpoint.

-
First I did a clean install of Leopard and reinstalled every piece of software I had from scratch. I did not use the Migration Assistant - which would of made that task easier, but I was afraid I'd drag the problem over.
My OS install had been upgraded several times already. Adobe CS4 was upgraded on top of CS3, on top of CS2 and I think some remnant application from CS were there too.

The second likely culprit I had might have been the NVIDEA 8800 GT graphics card I upgraded to this year I think. The stock graphics card my machine came with was the NVIDIA 7300 GT. I swapped them out too.

I plan to reintroduce the NVIDEA 8800 GT card later and if problem continue, I'll drag the machine to the Genius Bar and have them look at it while it's still under warranty - I suspect a hardware failure connected to the problem as several tech support cases for software apps I was having difficulty with asked about the card after seeing the log files and crash reports.

-- So, if anyone has the NVIDEA 8800 GT (the upgrade kit for the 1st Generation Mac Pro ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB560Z/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw) maybe put that on your suspect list for troubleshooting.

Cheers,
Jamie

I have a MacPro with a ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card
( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA631Z/B )

For me, being diligent about killing the FNPLicensing process (which launches every time I launch Photoshop CS4) has seemingly cured my problem. Knock on wood-like product, but with no other changes, the kernel panics have ceased. Still moderately annoying, but not as bad as starting up with control panels and system extensions disabled.
