Re-Ripping CDs

I want to re-rip my Cds (more than 1000) with Apple lossless de-coder, but I don't want to rip them to the same directory that holds my MP3s. When I am done, I will replace the MP3s, but I would prefer to store my songs on an external Hard Drive. In other words, how can I re-rip all of my songs to another location without disturbing the more than 18000 songs on my Ipod?

You can change the "itunes music folder location" in itunes > Preferences > Advanced > General tab. I don't have enough info on yor ipod setup to know what that change will do to the ipod's content.

Honestly, it might be easier to rip it all on another PC, esp if you are letting iTunes manage your music. Flipping back and forth between music folder locations, while iTunes is trying to manage music, is a good way to get ! items in your library.

Actually, you could try using an alternate iTunes library for the lossless items. Just make sure you use your normal iPod's library when you connect it to sync.
