Connecting mac pro to a Plasma screen.

Hi,
I need some advice with connecting my Macbook Pro C2D to a 42inch Pioneer Plasma screen via a DVI - HDMI lead (which I have). I'm having trouble getting the screen size correct on the Plasma. When I look in system preferences I can't get find a correct resolution that displays the whole of my desktop. Is there any 3rd party software I need to download?

Thanks

Power Mac Quad G5, Macbook Pro C2D 17in 3gig, iMac G4 17inch, iBook G3 turqoise, Mac OS X (10.5.2), I want so many new apple products!

i had a similar problem when i hooked my 42" LCD. here is what u do:

1.some t.v.s DON'T have a perfect 1:1 pixel with a pc connection; even a digital DVI->HDMI
this means when u plug in your computer, u might have to have overscan checked in the display preferences.

2. when u first hook it hook it up, more than likely your mbp is in mirror mode. do u see identical images on your laptop and t.v.? if its in mirror mode, u wont get the full resolution (to fill the entire screen). make sure both units are on, and click unmirror and set the highest resolution for the 2nd display (i.e. 720p or 1080p), and your plasma should be on full image of your desktop.

3. double check your display preferences and make sure u have the arrangement set correctly. The main display can be set by dragging the thin rectangle (which is the menu bar in OS X) to the screen u want to use.

hope this works out for u

once u get it to work full screen i recommend using the apple moniter calibration to calibrate the way color appear on your t.v.
