Question

How can i join/merge AAC files ?

Hi,

how can i join/merge files, that i have imported with
iTunes with my Mac?

The background is, i use an iPod for audiobooks too.
iTunes join only audio-tracks direct from the CD and
you have one or more files per CD like your audiobook
is long.

The iPod don't manage audiobooks like music files.
For the audiobook functionality (bookmark in m4b-files)
you need one file per audiobook.

So i want to join/merge my AAC-files per CD to one
big file, but how ?

Like you said, the Join feature only works before you rip the songs from a CD. Maybe there is a 3rd party app to do it, but I don't know of one.

You could try iTunesJoin. I don't know anything about it, and found it by doing an Internet search, but it got pretty good comments on VersionTracker.

If you have GarageBand, you can drag the files to the tracks. Then export back to iTunes.

Thank you at all,

I took hope with the idea by Gary.
But Garageband get problems with big files.
In this case, i tried to join three 700 MB aiff-files,
and Garageband stopped after one.
Small files are not a problem.

So i used Audacity with Windows to join the files manualy, because Audacity has problems with OS X Tiger and converted the one big file with iTunes (Mac).

I hope the developers have this little function (join/merge files) on the iTunes todo-list.

You're right. The limit is 999 bars and at 120 bpm, will only give you approx. 33 minutes. You can change the tempo to 40, but still, the limit is 100 minutes.

700 MB AIFF files is approximately 80 minutes (assuming it's music) times 3 equals 240 minutes. That's 4 hours of listening. Other than my Pink Floyd album, which totals about 43 minutes, I don't think I have anything else where I would want to join tracks, that are longer than that. Must be something special 🙂

You can use Quicktime Pro, but I found it difficult to precisely position music files end-to-end. I have Amadeus II, that will handle large files such as yours. In fact, I just joined 500 minutes (about 150 files).
