Which version of Quicktime do you have? I think the OGG file type is supported in version 7. Supposedly iTunes can handle whatever Quicktime can handle, but that doesn't seem to be the case here since QT can play back .wav files but iTunes won't.

I've rippede a bunch of albums and compressed them (using LAME) into OGG. Problem is, iTunes doesn' t seem to recognize either file type - when I try to add wav or ogg files to my itunes library, I do not see any new files. Any thoughts>

Sorry, my initial email was incorrect and misleading. I ripped CDs on my Linux Box using GRIP and then compressed using OGG (not LAME).
Secondly, I know can get iTunes to play the wav files - I've imported them into the library, and they seem to work fine. One minor glitch is that the artist and album information is not present for the WAV files, so perhaps GRIP did not include the information in a format that iTunes expects - perhaps someone could shed light on that?
Regarding OGG/Quicktime - I'll need to check the version of Quicktime I'm using, but it should be up to date. I've heard that OGG may not be supported for various copyright reasons, but I'm sure someone out there has a solution!

Neither QuickTime nor iTunes natively support Ogg Vorbis. There is a new version of a third-party Ogg QT component that might work for you.
As far as I know OGG is not supported by Quicktime, iTunes or iPod for that matter. I don't know why. As far as I know
OGG is Open Source and is free to use without any licensing issues. IMHO I think Apple should support OGG and should have done so years ago.

Does iTunes recognize WAV or OGG?
