I cannot open a video file on a website. The suffix for the file is .m4u which I am guessing is yet another of the myriad of files in which videos are composed and which I really don't understand. I get the message that I don't have the application to open this type of file. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The .m4u file extension is a playlist of MPEG-4 video files. It contains links to movies and video clips, not the actual files. QuickTime would normally access an .m4u playlist, perhaps the playlist has become disassociated from the previously linked files.
Thanks very much Musashi. I went to the VLC site and downloaded the Mac OS X / Platform Specific Package / Intel Package (14.4 MB). It worked - I was able to open the m4u file. Very much appreciated.
