NO audio with .AVI with QuickTime 7.5

I'm aware that there are other posts about this issue. However, I have done several attempts and resolves to fix this problem with no luck. Here are my attempts:

*[+] Installed Perian 1.1 (no result)*
*[+] Re-installed Quicktime 7.5 (just read in some post that this is not that easy to do because QT has several components in the mac system)*
*[+] Deleted obsolete components (no result)*

I have played the videos on a PC and everything works fine. I have also attempted to copy the same videos from my Casio Elixim Digital Camera and stil no audio.

Here's the contents of my QT folders:

[+] Macintosh HD Laptop/Library/QuickTime
[-]LiveType.Component

[+] Home(or User)/Library/QuickTime
[-] AC3MovieImport.component
[-] Perian.component

I'm not sure if this is the proper configuration for this. I have Perian 1.1 installed. According to most post, this is the solution for this problem. Do I have to delete or move any of these components to the proper folders?

I'm really afraid that I have screwed something up with all of my attempts to fix this.

Here again are my problems:
[+] No audio with certain .AVI files
[+] New video imports from my digital camera has no video as well.
[+] Some .AVI videos still play videos perfectly fine.

Some please shed some light on this. Thanks you in advance! Your help is greatly appreciated.

*A few suggestions:*

If you have not done so after installing Perian - Repair permissions & restart.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832 Mac OS X: No audio from certain multimedia content

Trick/Tip: Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.

Install VLC Media Player, repair permissions & restart.

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried repairing disk permission and restart my computer, no result. I also tried the changing the MIDI set-up. The 3rd party components in my system did not change any settings in my MIDI set-up. Also attempted, the garage band trick/tip...still NOTHING.

I haven't installed the VLC Media Player. Will installing this retrieve audio in my videos? I'm using iMovie to editing some of the videos. When I import the .avi videos on iMovie, no result.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again for making your suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I know that the audio is still there. I have played the .avi videos on a PC and was able to edit them on Window Media Player. There is NO audio when I use QuickTime 7.5 and import them on iMovie.

I attempted to download the VLC Media Player, but it stop in the middle of the download. I will try again. Any other suggestions?

The only other suggestion to suggest:

Open the file with QuickTime Player.
Open the Movie Info window (Command-i).
Note the name of the video codec used in the file.
Do a Google.com search for codec name +Mac and download one appropriate for your OS and computer.
Quit and relaunch QuickTime after installing the new codec.
Try the file again.

The same with me!

It is very annoying installing an upgrade of which you trust to be tested sufficiently and what happens: lots of users cannot use the QT anymore. I have checked now a lot of forums and sites and no one has been able to give the right solution. This problem is due to the upgrade from Apple.

Do you know how to revert back to the older version of QT or at least how to get rid of the upgrade?

Thanks,
Xbal

Data Size: 10.56 MB
Data Rate: 2064.55 kbits/s

Considering the huge user base for Quicktime and the fact that only a few dozen users have posted here, the problems described in these forums do not appear to be confined to users of either Leopard or Tiger, or either PPC or Intel Macs, but relatively speaking they are few and far between. I have had no problems at all after installing QT 7.5.

it is therefore reasonable to assume that something in either your pre-existing setup or your method of installing updates, are the root causes of whatever problems you are having with QT 7.5 particularly with choppy playback or missing audio. Out of date plug-ins and add-ons could also be playing a part.

A few things to try but in each case first close all applications and repair permissions.

1 Try opening then closing GarageBand, or launching then quitting the "Audio MIDI Setup" application located in Applications/Utilities. Failing that, go back to Audio MIDI Setup, and under the Audio Devices tab, make sure the Audio Output Format is 44100.0 2ch-16bit.

Restart your Mac.

2 Go to the Library on your main hard disk and find the Internet Plug-Ins folder. Try removing the following files:

QuickTime plugin.plugin
Quicktime plugin.webplugin

Restart your Mac.

Re-install the Quicktime 7.5 update

Go to Home/Library/Receipts and delete the file Quicktime 7.5 pkg.

Download from the Download page on the Apple site the correct version of Quicktime 7.5 for your Mac.

Install it and restart your Mac. Repair permissions.

3 If still no luck, it is time to look carefully at your plug-ins and add-ons. The safest way is to download and re-install all of them. The ones you need in order to see and hear virtually everything the web has to offer are:

RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from (you may need a different site for the US):

http://uk.real.com/player/mac/

Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)

Perian from http://perian.org/

You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.

Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)

You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of all recent Security Updates.
(N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.

Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.

Important: Now repair permissions and restart.

There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:

On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.

On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.

If none of the foregoing worked, then you should consider and archive and install before repeating all of the above.

I have found a number of related posts on this subject (google: no audio quicktime 7.5). I tried 4 differnet macs.

The intel mac-mini plays AVI files with no audio; it has quicktime plugins installed for divx, flip4wmv, and perian; vlc doesn't play audio either. Tried everything suggested but nothing worked; even tried going back to 7.4 (found another post); nada.

A white iMac (intel, tiger) has no plugins; it tells me I need to install a plugin to play the AVI file (same file as mac-mini).

The 24" iMac (intel, leopard) plays the AVI just fine, audio and all; note: it has Logic Express 8.0.2 on it.

The old ppc mac-mini plays the AVI with no audio; it has the divx and an xvid plugin installed.
