iMac G5's screen is completely black, but it seems like it works perfectly.

Hello, I really need some help with the problem and I would like a fix that would be free or really cheap and doesn't involve going to the Apple Store. It started when my computer froze and I had to hold down the power button to shutdown. After I shutdown and then restarted, the computer LCD screen won't turn on and the computer still makes sounds like adjusting the volume from the keyboard. Please, can someone help me with this major problem, all my music and videos and photos are on this computer and I don't have a new backup.

If your computer does not qualify, then you will need to supply details about your system.

Thanks for responding, well I have a "M9843xx/A 17-inch iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor), 1.8 GHz" so I believe that means this computer will not qualify for iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues. Also, if you guys can, could you please provide a fix that would be free or somewhat cheep. Major thanks once again.

The M# is not a serial number.

*+Where do I find the serial number of my iMac G5?+*
+The 11-digit serial number is located on a label under the foot of the iMac G5. There is a bar code underneath the serial number. To view the label, hold the sides of the iMac and gently lay the computer face down on a soft, clean towel or cloth.+

Also, did you try the solutions in the links I posted in my original response?

Hello, first, I do know that that the M# is not a serial number, but I thought it I was not suppose to give out my serial number. Also, I did try some of the solutions in the link you give, I tried resetting the NVRAM and PRAM, but sadly it did not work. I haven't got the chance yet to access the diagnostic LEDs (lights) on the main logic board.

Sadly, I did look at my computer's serial number and it is not qualified for the special services provided in those links. Also, I believe that those special services only apply to the first gen iMacs and I have a second gen iMac with the ALS. Also, the service I believe lasts for three years and I got my computer in May 2005 so it my be a little too late.

"but I thought it I was not suppose to give out my serial number."

Your not! However, you did not mention in your response if your +serial number+ qualified? You mentioned/provided your marketing model #.

If no one else chimes in here w/solutions, you may need to take your comp to your nearest AASP.

Only the repair shop can answer that one for you. They need to make a diagnoses. You should ask for an estimate when/if you take your comp to an AASP or Apple Store for repairs. This will give you an idea of the cost. You will also have to take into consideration taxes & labor costs.

If your computer needs parts that are not available and/or it will take some time for the repairs to be done, then request a loaner.

Good luck!
