non-apple charger ok?

when traveling, i've always used the apple's power adapter. but i just bought the jawbone 2, which comes with it's usb power adapter. looking at the specs on the units;
apple --> 5V, 1.0A
jawbone --> 5V, 550mA
everything else is the same. if my really limited knowledge of electronics is correct, i can use the jawbone for both, but not the apple. and time to charge the ipod would be just short of doubling. did i get that right? i don't want to damage any of my electronics, but do want to travel with just one adapter. anyone here that can help?

G5 dual 2, Mac OS X (10.5.3), ipod touch

I just bought the following A/C iTouch charger for just over $4 including shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220245608694&ssPageName= STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=012

According to the plug, it's rated at 5V 500mA+/-5%. I plugged it in and it seems to do fine. I only intend to use it while traveling.

Anyone wanting to comment on the output voltage in regards to my iTouch would be appreciated. If it's OK, I'll probably use it more often.

The only downside that I see is whether it "shuts" off automatically after a full charge. If not, will that damage my iTouch?

Current is taken by the item using it. Current is not "pushed" to the item.
An iPod (or any device) will not draw more current than it needs unless it is faulty.

Using either adapter will work fine.

If you use an adapter with an item that requires more current than it can supply, the adapter could burn out.
With USB, the item should talk (via USB) the adapter and tell it what current it needs. If the appropriate current cannot be supplied, the adapter simply won't work.

If you plug an iPod into a low power USB port, it will not charge but it will still sync as long as there is enough battery.
