Stuck/Confused IP Address after switching networks on my MBP
After disconnecting from a friend's airport network, and then connecting my MBP to a different, wired network, the MBP gets confused about it's IP address, and loses all internet connectivity. Specifically:
- The Network Pref pane reports the IP address to be 192.168.2.8, and the router to be 192.168.2.1, which is reasonable.
- Network Utility reports the IP address of the en0 interface tp be 192.168.2.1 (same as the router)! No wonder nothing works! the utility WakeOnLan also reports 192.168.2.1 as the MBP's address.
I'm not sure what I've changed on the system to cause the problem. None of the following help:
- unplug/replug cable
- renew DHCP lease
- use manual IP address in Network Pref pane
Restarting the system seems to fix the problem.
If I can connect to an Airport network, that works (if I disconnect the ethernet cable).
Any ideas on the problem?
Is there any way to reset the machine's IP address at a low enough level to fix the problem w/out rebooting? I'm familiar w/ Terminal.
