Where is the temporary directory for Apple Updates Stored.

I hoping someone might know the answer to this. When Apple issues a update that is downloaded using the Software Update, where does it store the files or in what temporary directory does it save them to until the update has been completed?
My Dad has a iMac and he doesn't have dedicated high speed Internet connection he has just dial-up, and so when the software update runs to keeps starting over on the on the latest Mac OS 10.5.3 combined update, rather then pick up where it left off. This frustrates him, and he wants to remove (delete) the partial download. I have on many occasions suggested that he should get a high speed connection, but he doesn't want to be saddled with any contact, or long commitment, and they are on a fixed income.

Also check at MacintoshHD / Users / myUserAccount / Downloads

I launched Software Update (SU) and selected Download Only from the Update pulldown menu. Software Update / Update / Download Only

I have Safari set to download onto my desktop, however, I found the SU download in the Downloads folder at MacintoshHD / Users / myUserAccount / Downloads

I also found similar files at MacintoshHD / Library / Updates as suggested above

but I still do not know where these partial update downloads are stored.

I don't think they are stored. Anyway, at least not in the expected form of finding a file in a folder.
The downloading data streaming in would likely be temporarily held in the Virtual Memory, until completion and then installed. If the process is interrupted, whatever data was downloaded will be scrapped by the computer, next time it wants to use that memory space for something else.
