Canon IXUS 970 IS & Leopard

I just bought the latest imac with 10.5.2 running. I loaded up my Canon Digital Camera software from CD this afternoon.... I downloaded all the photos on the camera (180) to the Canon Image Browser via Canon Window. Somewhere the EOS Utility comes into it too.... then things started to go wrong. I noticed that some photos were missing. One thing led to another. I decided to do a complete download from the camera again. Of course I duplicated everything (I thought it would overwrite the images). Then I decided to get rid of ALL the photos in the Canon Image Browser on the imac and import them again - couldn't easily delete 180 duplicates one at a time.

Now the Canon Camera Window won't respond - it just sits in the dock and appears TWICE when I click the icon first off. It won't quit either. I have to force quit. So then I dragged all the Canon camera software to the trash and installed again. No difference. Still the camera is not recognised by the imac anymore and the Camera Window won't respond. The USB connection to the camera is OK - I used it to print directly with my Canon printer just to check. It is fine.

I just tried to import using iphoto. It went through the download motion, and then said the files are unrecognisable. But they are still on the camera.

Anybody have any suggestions please? I am stuck. Unless it's suddenly the [new] camera which is acting up - but why should that be...... Thanks.

Hi TD

Yes, I opened Image Capture from the Applications folder like you suggested. It went through the motions.... downloading all the files. But the IMG files, although seemingly downloaded, are nowhere to be found.

Plus the small bright blue 'downloading' light on the camera doesn't flash like it should when downloading. When I switch on the camera and then connect the cable, the imac SHOULD recognise that the camera is attached and come up with options. I can't understand that it worked first time earlier, and the now is like a dead dodo.

My only other option at this time I think is to go to my Dad's emac where I originally set the camera up before I got the new imac and see if everything is as it should be there. It was ok working on that computer.

If you can think of anything in the meanwhile.... I will let you know how I get on tomorrow... Thanks JFW

Well... I managed to download my camera! I installed the latest 10.5.3... then I charged my camera... then I repaired disc permissions (didn't particularly know what I was doing, but somebody suggested doing this... I just hit the repair button in utilities and waited several minutes...) and then..... I just downloaded the contents of my camera!! straight into iphoto... the camera only seemed to 'see' iphoto and not the Canon software anyway.

Like somebody said... the Canon software may have interfered somehow, so I'm going to use iphoto, not the Canon software that came with the camera - using the Canon interface wasn't so straight forward anyway.

Hopefully I can do it again....! Thanks a lot. JFW

Hi Keith

Thanks for that. I don't have PhotoMerge, but I do have PhotoStitch - is this the same? I mean on the camera the photostitch facility presumably would have to use this program? Also, while you're on... do you know how to print the digital zoom photos? Eg. after I have taken a photo and then I selectively zoom into it on the camera to cut out rubbish, it allows me to save for printing. But how do you then print it. I don't seem to be able to save it to the camera to load to the imac. Do you have to print it directly to the printer? If that's the case, then I won't have all the facilities for editing, de red eyeing, cropping further etc. If you know the above that would be brilliant. Thanks.

These are all Camera questions - someone here may know the answers but the best place is your camera user manual or camera support forum

For example on my Sony when I zoom and drop on the camera it generates that image on the memory card so it loads into iPhoto
