iTunes on MP3 Player

I purchased a small Nextar MP3 player for my 10-year old neice, and she can't get iTunes to recognize the player. Windows Media Player keeps coming up every time she plugs the player in. I've had her reformat the MP3 player, but doesn't seem to work. She just purchased some songs from the iTunes store with her birthday money, and can only listen to them on the computer. Any help with how to set up her MP3 player would be much appreciate it! I have a Mac & iPod myself, and therefore can't be of much help with her on a PC. Thanks!

iTunes for Windows is only compatible with the iPod/iPhone range and the iTunes enabled phones from Motorola. You need to check out the manual for your player to see what method it uses to import songs. Most will have their own management software and many just operate as simple USB devices and you can drag tracks from the iTunes Music folder rather than through the iTunes interface. Also remember that many players will not work with AAC (MP4) format at present so if you imported anything from CD into iTunes using the AAC encoder then they will need to be converted to MP3: How to convert a song to a different format

Alternatively you may be able to get the player working with the aid of a third party helper program. Have a look at this one and see what you think:
iTunes Agent -Windows

Also standard iTunes copy protected songs won't play on other players, only the iTunes Plus purchases can be converted and used on other devices. The only thing you can do with standard songs apart from playing them in iTunes or on an iPod/iPhone is burn them to Audio CD. You can use that CD just like any regular one.

I heard that some mp3 players will not work with iTunes, but didn't think it was true. She did try to drag the tracks over from the iTunes folder, but it kept giving her some sort of error message. I guess we'll just have to make some music cds and take it from there. I know she had no problems coping songs from her CD collection. I will try the iTunes Agent as well and see if that works. Thanks again for the info/help!

We have Nextar mp3 players also. You might have the same problem we have although we're working with a Mac. When you drag either from itunes or from the folder directly two files are copied for each song, one of the wont play and show a "format error" this has to be deleted then the other one will play. Unfortunately this has to be done for each song. I can on here looking for a way to see this "hidden file" which begins with _xyz for each xyz song. Our kids delete it on the MP# player and all is fine.
