Cannot connect to iTunes (Error -25294)

I am writing this because ever since I upgraded my titanium Powerbook G4 from OSX 10.2.8 to 10.4.1, I have been unable to access the iTunes Music Store. Every time I sign in, I get this message saying "iTunes could not connect to the music store. An unknown error occurred (-25294). Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I have tried to connect at home via dialup on airport extreme, and at school via LAN, but nothing works. Is this just a bug in Tiger that Apple is trying to fix? I would love to be able to buy new music again soon, so any suggestions as to how this can be fixed would be appreciated!

Hello all,

This -25294 error may be related to your Keychain.

First try running Keychain First Aid.

If that doesn't help, try this:
1. Locate the /Library/Keychains folder on your hard disk. Be careful not to confuse it with the /Library/Keychains folder in your home folder.
2. Drag this folder to the desktop.
3. Enter your administrator name and password when prompted to do so.
4. Restart the computer.

Did this help?

Ethan

I have the same problem. i found some related info on the music store support page:

basically it seems like the problem is firewall/IP router related. my problem started when i went wireless...the issue with the answer is that it doesn't say what configuration to change. my ISP told me that i needed to get the port number etc. from the music store and then change my NAT setting on my router.

still unresolved

I followed the instructions for Keychain First Aid. Verification and Repair failed. Got a message that System/Library/Keychains/x509Anchors could not be found. WIth it, many applications will be unable to establish secure network connections.

Under Repair it said You will need to manually copy it from another machine or reinstall the system software.

Does this mean I need to reinstall Tiger? I suspect that whatever this problem is has also prevented me from accessing my bank, hotmail and other sites through Safari, since I keep getting the message that the computer can't establish a secure connection.

I can't find the other thing you talked about. In fact, I don't really even know what a keychain is.

Hi Ethan--

I do recall that I didn't think the installation was complete (I don't remember any error messages, but that doesn't mean there weren't any) but the guys at the Genius Bar on Michigan Ave here in Chicago said it was fine. I have the new features, etc. But, as I said, I haven't been able to buy music or use Safari for "secure" stuff since.

I had the same problem after I upgraded to Tiger. Luckily before I upgraded I backed up my old system on my external harddrive.
In a earlier message somebody mentioned that the problem could be a keychain problem . He said it was related to Keychains x509Anchors. I went to my external harddrive and copied the x509 Anchors to my hardrive replacing the new anchors and everything now works fine. They are in System/Library/Keychains/x509 Anchors. Goodluck

Hi Willard,

The best thing for you to do now is to reinstall Tiger. You should do an Archive Installation and choose the option to preserve your users and network settings. More information about these installation options is here.

Make sure that you allow the disk check go all the way through when you start the installation. If you receive any installation errors during the installation process, you may just need to contact Apple technical support to get a replacement installation disc.

Hi Ellis -- did you ever solve this problem? There does not appear to be a solution in this string. I'm having the same problem, and my Safari will also not connect to any https server. My error is also -25295. Great irony is that Safari is forcing me to use Internet Explorer even to post this message. Would greatly appreciate help from anyone who has found a solution.

michael i have the problem but now i have the ability to use safari to enter https sites and logon to the apple discussions. i don't know how i did it but i now i have the debug pull down menu at the top after window and help i go to the security option and click "performs lax certificate checks" but i am still unable to use iTunes to purchase or redeem music. i can't believe we are the only ones with this problem i wrote itunes help desk about my problem and they offered me not much help. i seemed to think that the safari problem has to do with the firewall but not sure in how to direct you to the correct answer.
