Cannot connect to iTunes (Error -25294)

I am writing this because ever since I upgraded my titanium Powerbook G4 from OSX 10.2.8 to 10.4.1, I have been unable to access the iTunes Music Store. Every time I sign in, I get this message saying "iTunes could not connect to the music store. An unknown error occurred (-25294). Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I have tried to connect at home via dialup on airport extreme, and at school via LAN, but nothing works. Is this just a bug in Tiger that Apple is trying to fix? I would love to be able to buy new music again soon, so any suggestions as to how this can be fixed would be appreciated!

Hi DYeager -- I resolved the problem by deleting my keychains folder in /Library/Keychains. Apparently the -25295 error message clearly relates to a keychain corruption. My Keychain First Aid indicated everything was fine, but the Apple Store Ask a Genius Bar in Clarendon told me to delete the whole keychains folder and restart, after copying all my passwords for safety sake. It worked. -M

I was having trouble purchasing music on iTunes 6 and connecting to secure sites using Safari 1.3.1. I followed Ethan's instructions to move the /Library/Keychains folder from my hard disk to my desktop (although it never prompted me for a password to copy). Everything works great now.

This is a temporary solution, correct? Or should I just leave my keychains folder there on my desktop forever? What is the actual fix?

Hi Mary,

Since moving out that Keychains folder solved the problem, that indicates that one of the keychain files (probably System.keychain) was corrupt. Those keychain files are a part of Mac OS X, so the only sure-fire way to get those files reinstalled properly is to do an archive installation of Mac OS X (preserving users and network settings). See my post in this thread from July 18 for more information.

Regards,
Ethan
