trouble with distribution provisioning profile

After much frustration, I finally got this godforsaken step of distributing figured out.

Apple's instructions have two steps reversed. The step that says "In the project window, select the Distribution Active Configuration from the overview popup and set the Active SDK to Device..." must be done FIRST, before you can choose your provisioning profile.

It may also help to do a clean build - not sure if that is necessary.

Once I created a new Xcode project, then re-opened my old project, I was able to locate my provisioning profile in the drop-down box!

Same symptom here. Look at how you entered your Code Signing Identity:

"iPhone Developer: First LAST"

I had entered:

"iPhone Developer:First LAST"

NOTE: with out the stupid space after the colon. I looked at the details of my certificate in Keychain Access and saw the difference. These need to match and then you are closer to having it work. It worked for me, but we know how that goes. Thanks.

The trick for me was to create the Provisions folder manually and drag my profile there. XCode then saw it and allowed me to select it.

I may just be really stupid...but I thought I would add my distribution certificate to the System keychain. The directions on the dev program are not 100% clear as to which one to add it to so I figured that this would have me double covered (I also added it to the Login keychain). After banging my head against the wall for almost an entire day, I have finally figured out why my profile was not appearing in the Code Signing Provisioning Profile dropbox: the cert should ONLY be in the login keychain. Once I removed it from the System keychain, the right provisioning profile appeared in the dropbox and I was able to build for distribution without issue. Hope this helps!
