So what's new with the 10.5.4 update?

I haven't noticed anything yet.
and by the way
There was a thread that was critical of leopard that was pulled today.
I think it was titled Leopard update.
Apple and the users here should know about the problems and criticisms of Leopard.

Has anyone else been seeing issues with external disk drives with this update?

I have three external drives (USB 2.0) attached to my MacBook Pro. One 500GB, one 1TB, and another 1TB as a Time Machine backup drive. I changed nothing in this setup when I did the update to 10.5.4. After the update, the Time Machine drive is no longer mounting (isn't even visible in Disk Utility or Disk Warrior), and any operations involving the other two drives are painfully slow (like I have a 5GB rar file on one of the external drives, and it's been working for like 3 hours now trying to extract it, and it's only 15% done). I've tried moving the Time Machine drive to a FireWire connection, and it's still not showing up.

What's up?

Nearly two days ago I updated MacOSX 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 and everything looked fine but suddenly my mac has slowed and freezed. I restarted it but then it didnt want to boot. I used all the procedures written in the manual and on the forum but it still refused to boot. Then I decided to reinstall OS and after that it worked perfectly untill I updated it once again with OSX 10.5.4 and with QuickTime 7.5.After normal restarting it was constantly in grey screen. After that I repeated the procedure and reinstalled the OSX 10.5 but this time I refused to update it with a new version and now it works without a problem. Does anyone know what is happening with this update (10.5.4) and how to update the sistem without problems mentioned above?

mrhr:

Seems that Software Update caused problems with some users. I read somewhere here about a time-consuming experience from one user. Finally, she went to Apple site and downloaded Security Update of 88MB (June 30/08).

For me, that suggestion also worked without a hitch.

Frankly, an update of some 560MB is something to think about before installing.
