MacBook Pro LCD "white" spots

I'm getting flack from my local Apple store that somehow dust under the glass is an "environmental" defect ( aka, my home is *too dirty* ). I'm infuriated because I know that's BS. The LCD's are sealed and there isn't even any fans in the display that could be forcing dust into the sealed unit.

I am trying to escalate the matter since I was very insulted by the insinuation as well as the misinformation.

Despite the claim that it's somehow my fault that there is dust under the screen they are replacing it anyways, strange since if it's user error... why do they continue to replace the screen for me ( 2x dust, 1x uneven backlight, 1x flickering backlight ).

This will be the first and last Apple laptop in this house if I'm not satisfied with the results.

I have the same problem with my screen. White Spot mid right side. I called into Apple care today and they are shipping out a repair shipment box. I will let you know what happens with my device.
It is only about 7 months old and I do have AppleCare on it.

I am having the same problems with my MBP late 2008. I have a white spot on the left side of the screen.

Did anyone get it fixed? By Apple or Reseller?

I got the 1599 MB for christmas this last year, and I have a faint, white spot in the middle of my screen that can only be seen on a white or similarly light background.

Does anyone know if the MFG warranty would repair this if it is taken to an apple store?

From what I have read, I don not want to make the long trip to take it for some "Mac Genius" to tell me that I have yet to get to the 6 dead pixels for it to be covered.

I had the same problem with my MBP after just 6 months of owning it. There was one difference. I also had a black (dead?) set of pixels. The Apple store replaced the display. However when I went to pick it up, I was lectured by one of the Geniuses that the bright spots were my fault. He further explained that it was due to objects (possibly in my backpack with the MBP) pushing against the outside of the display. There was no visible damage to the outside of the display so I was somewhat skeptical about his explanation. He also added that if it weren't for the dark spot, I would have been liable for the replacement.

Just to pump this thread up - I have the same problem with white spots on the right side of my screen. Will try to contact apple support, when my exam is finished and I can be without the MBP for 30 days...

In fact, let me tell you all, that those are not dead or stuck pixels, is a problem on the LCD itself, the pixels on that spots are lighter than the other pixels, that's why they look white, but they are not white. They are a lighter color than the other pixels. But again, those are not pixels, in fact they are a group of pixels, from 6 to 13 pixels eash one. Also you can notice like hairlines with the same issue.

My white spots are on the left side of the screen, i have 4 of them.

Also, my screen haves particles inside.

I will take my laptop to the apple service senter, and it doesn't matter what they say, they will have to exchange my screen.

I have had the same problem 3 times, It appears around every 5 months, after the LCD panel is replaced. I have had the panel replaced twice under warranty, but now its out of warranty, and there's really no point in me paying to replace it since it'll only happen again, and it'll be a waste of money.

Apple's laptops have been nothing but disappointment to me. I have had the last gen iBook G4, which had its logic board replaced 3 times due to its design flaw, but once out of warranty that was it, broke again. I always seem to buy Apple laptops with design flaws.

I am having this same exact problem. I have a small section (a couple millimeters in height and width) that have two small white spots on the middle left hand side of my screen. The problem is clearly visible over a white background (it sort of looks whiter and more burned out in that area), but the spots are much less noticeable when those pixels are over a very dark background.

This is a 15-inch refurbished MacBook pro from early 2008, which was purchased a few months ago and is under Applecare. I took it to the Apple store earlier this morning and was told that this was the result of accidental damage and that it is not covered under warranty. They referred to the problem as something they called "bruising".

Have other people encountered similar problems when trying to get help from Apple and how have people resolved this problem?

Thought I should add my situation to this post to add two more MacBook Pros to the list in the hope Apple notice.

I've got one of the first LED 15" MacBook Pros (one of the non-unibody ones) that's developed a quite large splotch of bright pixels about 1/3 from the right and half way down the screen. The first bright pixel appeared within the first year I had the laptop but has gradually become worse.

Just under two weeks ago I purchased a new unibody 15" MacBook Pro, partly because of the newer screen (which I hoped wouldn't have the problem) and 12 days in to owning it, there's a tiny bright spot appeared. I'm rather angry right now! Fortunately I'm in the UK and we can return it within 14 days for a full refund, which is what I'm going to do. I'll probably upgrade my previous MacBook Pro instead and not bother replacing this one.

What's even more disappointing is that I've treated both laptops with kid gloves and this new one has barely left my office desk, and has never once been in a bag or left the house.

I too have a blotchy unevenly lit LCD... I have a first gen 15 MBP. I've also got the dust, specs and dark blotches as well... OK, mine is nearly 3 years old, but still one expects more from what we all assume is a quality product, right!?

I think it might cover the defective LCDs as well as the ATI GPU but if not may be SFMS will open up a separate case if enough folks request it? MAke sure you say what your issue is when you filll in the form.

...and please, encourage everyone who has the ATI and/or LCD display issue(s) to submit their details at the above link. If you are members of other forums please pass this link on. The more people who register the complaint the greater chance we have of getting a good investigation.

I have two areas of this on my 15" MBP Santa Rosa LED LCD 2007...

It is glossy. They are on the bottom left and right corners, which would place them perfectly on the "hot" bar of metal above the keyboard.

The first section had always been there, but I just figured it was a manufacturing error, the second one I just noticed...I was thinking of selling it...

Is this happenning in the newer unibody MBPs?

This isn't mura though, this is distinct white spots...I have pics but cant figure out how to post them here...

This is the very reason I created an account here to reply to this thread because I am experiencing these problems also. This is obviously a design issue, there are countless threads like this one. This problem will directly effect my next computer purchase and seeing as how these bruises are are getting bigger, it might be soon. There is no reason that such an expensive equipment should fail like this. I have a dell lap top that has survived for 8 years. I will be switching to a linux based computer if these blotches continue to get bigger and apple continues to deny there obvious design flaw.

I've recently started looking into this as my display has had these issues for a while. I have the 2,1 version of this macbook pro. I took the laptop (have applecare... only good for another 3 months) to the apple store and within 15 minutes they ordered a new screen to replace the current one (I set an appt online... no waiting). The guy at the genius bar was awesome BTW.

My worry is that the replacement screen will just be another version of the same... anyone had that issue? Replaced the screen and have the same issue?
