Just bought like 80 songs only to have this happen... This has got to be some kinda joke, I have already lost a bunch of files having to kill iTunes repeatedly to try and get it fixed.......
Apple is definitely going to hear from me about this one.
I have to run iTunes in a **** virtual machine because they refuse to let it work in XP64, I mean seriously, it is like the only app that you literally have to edit an installer and do a bunch of stuff to just to get it installed on XP64! That is a whole different topic though :/
I've had this problem ever since I went to Windows 7 64-bit 4-core processor, I didn't have it before with Vista. Same machine, just rebuilt on the new OS. I also upgraded to the latest iTunes then, so it may be the iTunes version that's the issue. Unfortunately I can't run iTunes 7 on Windows 7. So for months now this problem has plagued me.
However, I CAN get my music, and maybe many of you can too. It's simple but it's annoying as all heck.
1) uncheck allow simultaneous downloads.
2) minimize the program.
3) walk away and come back later.
If I'm downloading 120 songs, I just start it at bedtime and come back in the morning, they're all there. Minimizing seems to allow it to continue past processing, albeit with a huge 15 minute+ wait for each file. I have no idea why minimizing would make a difference, but somehow it does.
I'm truly annoyed at the fact that the service around fixing this known bug is so low priority to Apple, I guess just because we're on an "inferior" OS so they can't be bothered to look into the problem.
i haven't been able to download a complete album without problem in a month or so. repeated emails to Apple support have been completely unhelpful in solving the problem (though they did give me 'song credits' which i can't get the iTunes store to actually use).
sometimes i can recover the missing tracks from my iTunes /Downloads folder. usually one or two are totally missing, though.
i think i'm going to switch to Amazon - never had any problems downloading songs from them.
This problem has also hit me, although I've also had total failure to process downloads from itunes. On my Windows 7 machine I found the advice to untick "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" to help, but I was seeing minutes to process a file which seems a long time. On my Vista machine which used to work fine I couldn't get any processing of downloads to work, getting errors 8288 or 13010 - the full file downloaded though. I have files on a NAS - I did wonder if this was the source of the problem, although I'd be very disappointed if itunes only works for local discs.
Apple seems very keen to blame security software and emphasise the need to use msconfig to disable startup services - a bit of a cop-out. I can see firewalls could create a problem if not correctly configured, but I'm a lot less sure about anti-virus software and in the case of firewalls you can always try just turning the off to test itunes. In any case, at best Apple has poor software and support. Support seems to take at least two days at each stage of investigating the problem. The software and support teams should clearly differentiate between downloading and post-processing - they don't. Itunes should known what files are faulty or only partially usable and allow these to be removed easily - it doesn't.
For years I've found itunes flawless. It's a shame to see that the software/service is failing and support is so poor.

You mean the OS that even Miscrosoft quit supporting over a year ago?
I was able to delete the files on my iPhone that were causing the sync problem using a Windows-based program called iPhone Browser. You might give that a try....
This is extremely recent with me since i just started redownloading my music after it got trashed when my hard drive failed!(screw you vista). No problems then, but now i cant get through one song without it taking an extra 2 minutes. I found it works better with one song download at a time, like everyone else did.
I've never been a real fan of apple, i only liked their iTunes cuz it was simple to use. Now i dont even know what the f
* is going on with iTunes, and its ending up like the last time i used a Mac(hopeless). Maybe if Apple opened their eyes a little and realized what people are having problems with, they would stop losing customers. I lost a whole season of a TV show to iTunes, $30 down the drain and waisted. I couldnt even beleive that this problem was going on since June!
Does anyone even know if iTunes is trying to work on the problem or even cares about it? Because I'd like to know if I should wait for them to fix it or just find another mp3 downloader(Amazon).
Thanks, kevkev
PS: does amazon mp3 downloads show up in your itunes library and can they be played on an ipod?
Hi guys, sorry if this has been resolved, however I had the issue of stuck in processing and again when downloading apps they were just the grey square with the waiting bar. I looked into this via the internet and everyone was assuming that it was their routers, download was too big, weak wireless signal, not enough GB to download in the internet usage etc. Having a BT Home Hub (which waivers in and out of strong/weak no wireless signal) I pressed the restart button on the bottom of the side of the hub and waited for it to do it's business and boot up. After this I tried going into iTunes again and seeing if I could download it again, it took it's time to realize (like when it didn't work) then kicked into life and asked for my password and downloaded, once it got to the processing point it got stuck. Again. Hmph. However if you leave the backlight ON so it doesn't go into lock then after around 3 minutes it will speed up and finish. The problem was also resolved with the apps. Sorry about the fact that this is only for Home Hub users hope everyone gets sorted soon!
My computer was stuck processing three songs all night last night (still stuck). Didn't matter if the backlight was on or off, didn't matter if I was running other programs or not, still processing. It's been almost 12 hours now. I unchecked the simultaneous download box. Just a few minutes ago, I tried closing iTunes, and now the program is not responding. I am afraid to force shut down because I don't want to lose my songs, and the fragments that have downloaded into the temp folder won't play. This is a stupid waste of time. I only used iTunes because I had a gift card. Never again!
Update! I sent an email to support yesterday. Today, they responded by crediting my account, allowing me to try downloading the songs again (which worked), and also asking me to make sure I was using the very latest version of iTunes (which I wasn't). After downloading the latest iTunes and logging in, the songs were there! I feel much better about iTunes/Apple support now.
I had the same problem. I gave up and selected the "pause" downloading option. Suddenly, the "processing file" began to speed up and finally downloaded the songs.
