Computer sees iPod, but iTunes does not!

Even the Genius Bar guy couldn't fix this:
- Everything used to work fine with my 5G iPod and Lenovo T61 laptop w/XP
-Suddenly, iPod won't sync with computer anymore
- Did all the "5R" stuff, so now I have an iPod with nothing on it, but iTunes still won't see it.
- I know the COMPUTER and OS are seeing it, since the iPod shows up in the Device Manager, and all the Windows stuff shows the iPod is attached
- Sometimes I get the "Restore" pop-up, but no more.
- Deleted and re-installed a fresh copy of iTunes
- If I connect the iPod to another computer it syncs, but NOT "it's own" laptop.

HELP! This thing is useless and I am out of options that, again, even the Genuis Bar couldn't help.

ANY suggestions, anyone?

I would recommend going to your control panel, Add/Remove Software, then find your iPod listed there. Click "uninstall" (make sure your iPod isn't plugged into the computer at this time). Then, open iTunes, and plug your iPod in again. This should work.

Probably best to start your own topic on this.

From here, click the "Return to topic list" link at the bottom of this thread. Then when you're in the forum, click the "Post new topic" list.

In the new topic explicitly describe your own symptoms. (In particular, the error messages you get when you try to launch iTunes or QuickTime, and any error messages you get if you try to uninstall either iTunes or QuickTime from Add/remove programs. Precise text please, and include any error message numbers if you're getting any.)

Hi there

I seem to have a similar problem to Penguin.
My ipod used to work fine but when I plug it in windows sees it but itunes tells me "the software for communicating with ipod is not installed correctly, reinstall itunes to install the ipods software". I have reinstalled it around ten times now but still the same message appears!! I am going nuts!!!! I have tried a whole bunch of other stuff like the 5R's, emptying the temp folder, changing the drive letter and a alot of other stuff but nothing seems to work!!! Funny thing is the **** thing syncs just fine with my mates laptop which is running vista!!

If anyone can help I would be so grateful. My ipod is 4th gen clickwheel 20gb
