Spoke with an Apple iphone rep and told that they just aren't compatible, likely due to the reasons previously described by everyone, however, Rogers (the wireless provider) rep told me that it is a problem that Apple should be able to fix it with a firmware update to the iphone 3G, and many complaints need to be sent for them to care about doing anything about it.
It will fit on the iPod Hi-Fi - however, it states that it does not charge the iPhone and you have to go into Airplane mode to be able to use it because of interference from the phone itself.
I purchased the Hi-Fi before I had an iPhone and the sound is amazing, however, I'm very disappointed that it doesn't work perfectly with the iPhone so I'll probably sell it and buy an altec Lansing t612, which is rated pretty high and works with iPhone 3G - it is shielded so the phone does not interrupt the music and it even lowers the volume and acts as a speaker for the phone when you receive a call. I still have to check to see if it charges the iPhone 3G as it plays.
i would advise against that choice. i have heard that altec lansing unit and it doesn't even compare to the HIFI. i would either use the iphone dock and a aux cable to charge it while playing, or live with having to charge your battery anyways. i have a new 4th gen nano and it also doesnt charge the unit, but the sound is unmatchable. you will be disappointed. i know everyones ears are different, but thats my own opinion.
I too was very disappointed that my iPhone 3G does not work perfectly with the HiFi. My solution: plug the iPhone into the wall and connect it to the HiFi using the headphone jack and the input jack on the back of the HiFi. Kind of clunky and you end up with extra cords, but at least I can hook it up and stream Pandora while the phone is charging...
I have an iPod 3g, the one with the row of 4 buttons above the wheel. It came with a dock which was originally for use with firewire.
I have an (european) iPhone 3g, which came with a USB (old style) charger and USB dock cable.
If I plug the dock cable directly into the iPhone 3g, it will charge (duh!). If I plug the dock cable into the back of the iPod 3g dock and dock the iPhone 3g, it will give me the same error message from the iPod Hifi.
Is the iPod 3g dock anything other than a pass-thru device? It's not getting any voltage different than what the USB charger is giving it!
I didn't even think about the possibility that the iPhone wouldn't work on the Hi-Fi. God... I was so p¡ssed and disappointed when I tried it and it didn't want to charge nor play. How stupid is that!!!
My iPhone 3G plays in the Hi-fi dock but would not charge even in airport mode.
I wish Apple could remedy this, they owe their loyal costumers some explanation
The explanation is the HiFi charges through the Firewire pin which is no longer supported on the iPhone 3G, 2nd Generation Touch, or 4th Generation Nano. You can get an adaptor to that will enable charging:
I have just bought a Vivo Hi-Fi dock (i368-3) based on Amazon description that says it works with iPhone 3G. My iPhone actually charges fine when docked, but no music through the speakers - just a sort of buzzing sound. I am about to send the docking Hi-Fi back for a refund but was wondering if there is something clever I can do to make it work? I have seen posts from others that got their Hi-Fi docks working (after it stopped working with the 2.1 upgrade) with a full restore.
Why would it charge my iPhone 3G but not play music?
Finally, any tips on a decent docking Hi-Fi that works with and charges the iPhone 3G??? Don't want DAB or radio or anything fancy - just decent sound.
did u every get any answers to this question mate i have and ipod touch that doesnt work with vivo speakers, funny though my eldests old version ipod touch without the internal speaker and our other ipods do work
