Java Compiler?

Sorry wasn't sure where to post this...
I recently started a Java Programing class and wanted to use my G5 running 10.4.11. I found the Java folder in */Applications/Utilities... But couldnt find anything in there that seemed to be an editor or a compiler. OS X is suposed to have the JDK already available, but I'm not finding anything useful. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Dustin

Dustin--

You'll want to install Xcode, the Apple developer tools. You should have gotten a copy of them with your OS X install discs. You can also sign up for a free online ADC membership and download the tools there:

They're big. Real big. Like almost a gigabyte big. So it helps to have access to a fast internet connection.

Since you posted in Mac OS X v10.4 discussion, I'm assuming you're using that, so you'll need to get version 2.5. Version 3 is for Leopard only.

Also, if you find yourself needing more help getting started, I'd suggest posting your questions in the Developer 101 discussion:

There are a few people there I know who do a lot of Java programming and they should be able to help get you up and running...
