No., this is
not a 1.1.4 issue. If it sounds similar, it's because it's the same kind of problem (I guess) relating to handshaking or SSL with the Exchange server and/or syncing the actual items on the server.
Yes, I have MobileMe, the App Store 5A347 etc. etc.
Yes; and I said "accept." I'm hoping that should be the end of it, but I'm not sure. I've also disabled SSL and opened port 80 on my server. Same result: i.e. no syncing.
Yep.
I guess they are 2 steps for successfully configuring corporate email.
After entering the account and email settings the message shows up .
There are accept and cancel buttons for this message .
When I accept it asks for Server information but fails after I give that info.
Scarey thought = AT&T have done that Enterprise plan thing and blocked access (ROFL - yes a bad joke :P )
Not so scarey thought = SSL/Cert issue with crappy error trapping
This could also be a Certificate issue. I know with other ActiveSync licensed apps running on Nokia phones I had certificate issues. However, using a Pocket PC out of the box connected to the same account I had no such issues.
I'm using Exchange 2003 SP2 in a front-end/back-end setup.
I followed the iPhone's setup new mail account wizard (enter in e-mail address, domain\username, etc) was able to connect on first try.
My only issue with the Exchange sync. It would be nice after deleting an e-mail that it would take you back to the inbox instead of opening the next e-mail message.
If certificate issues are really the problem, then Apple really dropped the ball. Anyone who's been configuring smartphones for any amount of time knows that that is a problem. I'm hoping Apple doesn't assume that everyone in the world has a Verisign cert--most people using this will probably have self-signed certificates.
It looked like it might have been the case that they took care of that with the accept/canel dialog box, but since it appears more than once, I'm not sure. Also, installing the cert with the configuration tool did not change the results.
Did Apple do an epic fail with 2.0? Exchange support was a big part of 2.0.
Check your Exchange server. For Exchange 2003 ActiveSync is enabled by default
1. Open Exchange System Manager
2. Expand Global Settings
3. Properties for Mobile Services
4. General tab > Verify all 4 check boxes are checked
I had concerns about the certificate issue as well. I have an Equifax certificate not the typical Verisign or Thawte. Anyways, when I had a Windows Mobile device, I had to import the certificate to sync with Exchange.
With the iPhone when filling in the fields then pressing next, iPhone did display an error with my cerificate however after I pressed ACCEPT, it continued with the setup. The pop-up message about the certificate occurred twice during the exchange setup on the iPhone however after completing the setup I was able to sync seamlessly with exchange.
Does this prevent Push working? By which I mean do you get a certificate warning everytime your iPhone uses ActiveSync and performs a sync to the server?
