Just updated iTunes to version 7.7 and now, when I connect my iPod I just get the spinning beach ball... The iPod doesn't show up and thus cannot sync..!
What to do??
MacBook, iPod nano 2GB, iPod Touch 32 GB,
Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Same thing here.
Until I installed the 2.0 firmware, everything was fine. Now it takes 2-3 min until the Touch is recognized. In the activity monitor the processes called 'spindump' and 'usbmuxd' are at the top of the list, and iTunes shows up as not responding. Not long before the iPod is finally mounted, first spindump then usbmuxd disappear.
Any ideas?
Same problem here. All was well with my 32G Touch on my Mac Book Pro with OS10.5.4
Updated to Itunes 7.7, bought the 2.0 Touch upgrade and never got to install it because the computer doesn't see the IPod! I've tried resetting the Ipod, powering off and on, restarting the computer, switching cables... nothing. Help!
same problem here with iPod Touch 32GB, iMac C2D OS X 10.5, iTunes 7.7
I updated the Touch to 2.0 successfully, and for several days everything worked fine, same as usual. Worked this morning just fine, too. Suddenly this afternoon when I plugged it in to sync with my iMac, iTunes seemed to hang and the Touch didn't mount. just a spinning beach ball and unresponsive iTunes.
it does this every time I connect it now - if I wait 4 or 5 minutes or so, eventually the iPod Touch mounts and I can sync. it used to mount within a few seconds.
only difference between this a.m. when it was working normally and this afternoon was I downloaded a couple apps from the app store this afternoon before plugging in to sync. but I had done that on previous days without problem. I've tried deleting the new apps I downloaded in case that was the cause but no difference. also tried rebooting the iMac, rebooting the Touch - still same problem.
Here too - iTunes 7.7 wouldn't see the iPod Touch, even before loading the 2.0 update. So I thought to use the Mac Book Pro for the update - but that would have blitzed everything on the Touch, since the G4 tower was my main music machine.
Tried and tried on the G4, and one time waited long enough for it to happen. BTW Force Quit tells me iTunes is not responding, which clearly ain't so - it's doing something, but very slowly...
So I got 2.0 on the touch and thought my probs were over - oh no, today same thing, and when I do get there the G4 starts behaving weirdly, copying 2 copies of each podcast over to the Touch ...
I didn't even want an update. I was happy with .mac and my music - but along comes me.com, demands iPod 2.0, demands iTunes 7.7 - and all of them buggy. GRRRR.. :0(
I installed 7.7 on my Pc (Win XP) then bough (and installed) 2.0 on my touch. It seemed to make a backup of all my music and settings then completely restore dthe ipod. FAter it managed to restore the settings but after trying the to restore musci my PC automatically went back to the log in screen. AFter than everytime i connect my ipod iTunes freezes. I tried resseting sync history. Ill try using iTunes on a different acount though i doubt that will work.
update: I restored to 2.0 and everything seemed fine again... at least, for the first couple syncs.
but then after a few times it started doing it again - i.e. takes quite a few minutes after connecting to the dock cable before the iPod Touch shows up in iTunes. it seems like iTunes is hung but it eventually shows up.
I say it's a bug in either iTunes 7.7 or in the v2.0 firmware.
hey everyone, iTunes 7.7.1 is just released via Software Update.
it says "iTunes 7.7.1 includes fixes to improve stability and performance."
I just installed the update, and now my beachballing problem is gone! plug in the iPod Touch and it appears in iTunes within a few seconds, like normal.
I just updated iTunes to 7.7.1 this evening and the spinning beach ball that afflicted my new Touch has disappeared. Hope the rest of you find the same relief.
