Bonjour Service won't start

I am having this same issue. I cannot upgrade to iTunes 7.7 which ***** because I am an iPhone owner.

Ive tried everything. Uninstalling iTunes, trying to manually start Bonjour Services, Disabling my firewall, disabling my virus protection etc etc and nothing has worked sofar.

Please shed some light on this issue!

I have XP pro and i cannot get the bonjour service to start either. i disabled it in msconfig but then re-enabled it along with every other itunes related service i could find. i check my spybot and every other service i used to block start up programs and they all have it enabled. i have re-installed and re-started many times... what's the deal?

have done that, still wont start during installation of bonjour or itunes.

If you haven't already done so, try uninstalling Spybot if you use it.

i had the same problem, reading the forums didn´t help me much! But I have analysed my firewall (Avira) and there was an entry in the log. Blocked the bonjour 0.0.0.0 service. So than I just deactivated my Firewall (deaktivate doesn´t mean just the lowest prio. you have to deactivated that windows complains that there is no firewall g). Afterwards I could install itunes. So no deactivating ipv6, or else. It´s mostly the Firewall!

I have the same problem with the Bonjour Service error message.
I tried to install iTunes 7 on a new computer (Dell XPS 420) that
is running Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) and got the error.
I first disabled and then uninstalled my anti-virus and firewall
software. I disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.
I tried both the iTunes 7 software and Bonjour for Windows.
In both programs the installation stops when the dialog reads
'starting services' and the error message comes up again.
I've tried most of the steps everyone here gave for a fix,
and nothing has worked.
I did run:services.msc, but Bonjour is not listed there.
I did run:netsh int ip reset, but that did not work.
I turned off the User Account Control, and that didn't work either.
What am I missing? Does anyone else have a solution for me?

I have the exact same problem. i tried loading with the disk and have no problems but can't find it on the PC. tried downloading from apple and it downloaded and installed but again can't find it to start the printer install process.

A lot of people seem to be having trouble with this. I do not know how to get the bonjour service to start (there seem to be lots of different suggestions) but you do not need it for itunes to work. As I understand it, the bonjour service is to support sharing/streaming over a network/remotely, and unless you specifically need that, your itunes will work fine without it.

To install itunes without the bonjour service, once you have tried to update/download 7.7 and it has failed because of the bonjour service not starting, open the Apple Software Update program (which has been added to your All Programs list now, if it was not there before. Cancel the check for new software which starts up,click on Tools, and open the Downloaded Updates folder.

Rename the bonjour service listed there (I used OLDbonjour)then select the itunes download, which will now install without trying to start bonjour. It will bring up a warning message about bonjour not being there, but will install fine.

AlanB99 - thanks, that solved HALF my issue. I don't need Bonjour, except to get around the iTunes install/update, but your method worked great to get by the Bonjour install issue. BUT, now I get the exact same issue when the iPOD Service is being installed - the 'privileges thing" ... and I can't do without the iPod service. Now the service is gone from my system after all these attempts to update iTunes/Quicktime.

Now I wish I hadn't bothered with any updates.

Anyone know how to get around this one. I've tried everything in this post and others so far.

I hate to reply to my own post, but I did get iTunes reinstalled, albeit without Bonjour. I completely removed all Apple software and then used AlanB99's method in the previous post.

I hope someone figures out the Bonjour issue before the next update comes out.

I have managed to mess up my bonjour service.

I was having some trouble getting the apple remote app to work. After reading some posts I finally got the app to work by going into services and starting the bonjour service. My remote worked, but I lost the connection if I backed out of the app on my phone.

I read some forunms and one suggestion was to reinstall bonjour. This is when things went south. I was never able to get bonjour to reinstall. I've tried completely removing bonjour and competely reinstalling iTunes.

Unfortunately, now I cannot get the bonjour service to start. I've tried everything mentioned in this post with the exception of changing registry keys.

Could someone offer some suggestions?
