Bonjour Service won't start

I'm struggling to get the Bonjour Service to start in Windows Vista, which is frustrating as it means I can't update iTunes. During the installation process, it tells me:

Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I know that I do have sufficient privileges to start services, as I am able to start and stop other services through the Computer Management Console.

I have tried all of the suggestions I can find elsewhere online, including deleting all of my temporary files, disabling Windows Firewall and uninstalling my anti-virus. None have worked. The same problem occurs, whether I'm using the iTunes installer, or just the standalone Bonjour for Windows one.

Any suggestions?

Chris

I tried all of these things and more. I can't keep Bonjour Services running. Everytime I attempt to start it it automatically stops shortly after. And I can't use my iPhone remote App because of this. I'm on windows vista with iTunes 8 and Bonjour 1.0.5. I tried reverting back to iTunes 7.7 and Bonjour 1.0.4 but no luck. Does anybody else have a solution that might work?

Prior to updating to iTunes 8 Bonjour Services worked fine. And after the update it does not want to run even if I try to install the previous iTunes.

I ran into the same issues. I can't tell you how many times I have uninstalled itunes and all associated programs (quick-time, bonjour, and anything else that said itunes) nor how many hours I have spent messing with this program before finally giving up and resorted to doing a total restore on my computer to bring itunes back to 7.0 which has always worked.. The difference this time is that I have a new ipod that only works with 8.0. This time I did some things different.

Before downloading itunes, I turned off all of my firewall and anti virus programs like someone suggested here. I saved 8.0 to my documents instead of running it. Before installing it, I hit ctrl alt delete and turned off all of my aol processes, printer processes, and my anti virus processes that were still running. Closed down every program and proceeded to load 8.0. This time, everything loaded correctly and everything is working properly. Problem solved.

Hi. I just wanted to let you guys know what I found out about this issue. I have worked and worked to resolve this problem which started after I upgraded my iTunes. I tried everything mentioned in all of these posts and nothing helped.

I concluded that the problem is caused by an issue in iTunes 8.0 and above and there is no way to correct it until the problem is fixed by Apple and a newer version of iTunes is released.

Finally, here is what I did:

I went to the Programs and Features control panel and used it to uninstall Bonjour service, iTunes and Quicktime. You have to restart after each program is removed.

Once that is done, go to http://www.oldapps.com/download.php?oldappsid=iTunesSetup7629.exe and download iTunes 7.629. This is the immediate predecessor to iTunes 8.

After download completes, run the installer and make sure that it installs QuickTime as well as iTunes. Bonjour service is also installed with this same installer.

Restart the computer and after it reboots, iTunes will work fine. Bonjour service will be running and if you have other computers running iTunes on your network you will now be able to see the other computers' iTunes libraries. This was another issue in iTunes 8 in which the other computers' iTunes would show up but you would get an error when trying to open their libraries.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and everything works great after I downgraded to 7.629.

That's my solution. I will upgrade only when Apple addresses this issue and corrects the problems.

Let me know if questions.

So i've been researching this problem for a LONG time and have been waiting to upgrade to version 8 of iTunes for a while now and while fumbling around with Bonjour and the Services on my computer I found a solution.

(keep in mind i'm running Windows XP, so it might be slightly different for you)

1. Open the services list.
2. Right click "Bonjour Service" and click Properties.
3. Switch over to the "Log On" tab.
4. Look under "Hardware Profile". It should say "Profile 1.....Disabled.
5. Click on Profile 1 and then click "Enable"
6. The Bonjour Service should start up right away and everything should clear up.

Hope it works alright!
Did wonders for me.

I have been having the same issue for months and have spent hours trying to resolve both with apple support and on my own even deleting reg keys and can not resolve. After uninstalling all apple software and reinstalling it, now I can't even install iTunes because I get an error message that says "an older version of Bonjour can not be removed" and the install stops there. There is nothing in "programs" or "services" anywhere with Bonjour yet I get this message. I get the same message when trying to install the new 1.0.6.2 Bonjour. It's quite frustrating. If anyone can offer any help on this, I would be deeply indebted.
