"Disc burner or software not found" error.

Basically despite the fact that my burner is listed under "advanced" preferences and I can burn using any other program, I get "Disc burner or software not found" error on my iTunes 5.

Any suggestions, I really want to solve this problem.
Thanks

Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

I got this message after (foolishly) upgrading to IT5. Fortunately I had a back up dvd of my library, so I just removed IT from my computer and started from scratch reloading as if it was a new i pod. I know it is only IT 4.2 but at least I can burn cds etc. As others have said, I will wait until IT5 is getting good reviews until I upgrade again. Hope this may help someone

I installed my new NEC ND-3540 and was frustrated to see in iTunes only my old CD Burner (preferences), which I have removed(!). The message "Disc burner or software not found" appeared after pressing the burner button.

I put the line "_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500A" after the Sony Line (see above), and after that I could choose the NEC drive. I succesfully backuped my iTunes Music on a DVD (3.3 GBytes) and burned an Audio CD. The NEC Burner is really fast and silent.

in File gcdroem.cfg:
[DVD RW+RRDL-RW-R IDE DVDMULTI]{RecorderType:IDE/ATAPI}<gcdrmmc.dll>
SONY DVD RW DRU-700
_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500A

I chose the section [DVD RW+RRDL-RW-R IDE DVDMULTI], because it's most similar to the 3540 specification.

For those with other burners, try other sections an I hope they will succeed.

I got it to work by adding the third line:

[PIONEER IDE DVR105]{RecorderType:IDE/ATAPI}<gcdrmmc.dll>
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109

There are two spaces between the DVD-RW and DVR-109

I found that two spaces were needed by going to the "Device Manager" and opening the "Properties" for the drive and selecting "Details". The "Device Instance Id" looked like this:

IDE\CDROMPIONEER DVD-RW__DVR-109_________________1.58___\450044423043383834345733204C202020202020

I hope this helps.

I too have the same problem-I loaded Version 5 and have a NEC 3540A Burner. I tried all the recommendations everyone has made and I still can't get iTunes to burn a CD, as it tells me "No Disc or software found". I truly believe that Apple technicians read these postings and one of them can easily fix our problem, if only they would be allowed to. We need some sort of patch developed and sent out. For all the money we have spent on iTunes and Pods I think we are making a reasonable request. Does anyone have any new ideas?

Hmmm - am I missing something here? The original question related to the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K15 - and yet all the answers seem to relate to NEC drives.

If it is of any consolation to the original poster, myself, and 'er indoors, have identical laptops (with identical patching, firmware and iTunes versions), both with this make and model of drive - and all relevant registry entries appear identical. Yup, you guessed it - one works fine, and one gets the "disk burner or software not found" error.

Yes, I know that this post is of no earthly use to anyone -am just sharing the pain (and hoping that Apple are reading).

Anyway, in the long list of NEC related suggestions, the one about the need for a double-space in the additional line in the cfg file sounds a good'un - so guess I will give it a whirl.
