Apple server shutdown is blocking complete 2.0 update

I just got off the phone (it's now 9:19 a.m.) with an Apple tech support rep because my last update to 2.0 would not complete -- the "accessing iTunes store" part. The tech said that Apple's server has shut down because of the huge surge of people who are updating their phones. They are now working on it, he said.

You say the server is not down, but it is a bit busy. Should it take over an hour? My iPhone has been accessing the iTunes Store for over an hour. Any suggestions?

When I synced my phone to iTunes this morning, I checked for updates and was told the 1.1.4 version was the newest one and that I was up to date. I wasn't even given the chance to download 2.0. Anyone else having this problem?? I can't get Apple Support on the phone; I've been on hold for 20 minutes and counting...

The Apple tech I spoke with said the phone, unfortunately, will not work until you are able to complete the "accessing ITunes store" step

Nathan - what is the best thing to do right now if your phone is displaying "slide for emergency" and itunes is "accessing iTunes store" and nothing is apparently happening ?

Just leave the phone selected under "devices" and let it idle on this?

Is it better to reconnect, etc... ?

Well when i installed the new version of iTunes it showed me that v2 was available, i clicked update and it went back to saying that v1.1.4 is the latest. I have a feeling they have found some big problems with the v2 software and they do not want people to update. Or their server is just slammed and they are blocking anymore updates for now while they get their act together

I got the same message both yesterday (after the download which I thought was 2.0 and mobileme) and today - said my 1.x.x versions was the current and it would check back in a week.

praise the lord that this forum exists ... letting me know not to try to install 2.0 on my iphone ... will wait til Saturday or Sunday.

Well i just restarted iTunes and checked for the update again and it told me there is a v7.7 of iTunes now needed to install iPhone 2.0 so installing that and seeing if it will install the v2.0.
