I think I know what I am going to do. I am going to create this REALLY KICK BUTT company that uses some sort of activation over the phone process. I am going to open it up world wide all at once. Then, I am only going to have two phone lines for the whole frickin' company. (Not just one....two....that way I will give people hope that they will get through) That would be awesome. I bet I would be a great, cool, successful company. Don't you think?!

Say what you will

_Everyone else says the same_. Actually USB has faster throughput.

CPU multitasking and data transfer is related to RAM

USB 2.0 = 480Mbps transfer rate
Firewire 400 = 400Mbps transfer rate

There are conflicting statements regarding this discussion but in all reality the two are virtually the same as far as the iPhone is concerned. If speed of transfer during CPU multitasking is an issue for you I suggest you invest in additional RAM for your computer.

Certified,

While USB has a maximum theoretical throughput of 480 Mbps, and Firewire 400 is 400 Mbps, in sustained transfers Firewire 400 has less overhead and actual transfers data faster.

Firewire 800 has a maximum of 800 Mbps.

Whether or not RAM will help in this situation depends on if he is maxing physical RAM usage, or just CPU. If it is CPU, then adding RAM alone won't help.

For example in the graph in one of the first reviews in your search link, the graph for USB and Firewire look similar, but if you pay attention to the scale it changes between the graphs and shows Firewire transfering about 2.5-3x faster than USB 2.0.

However, USB 2.0 is more prevalent on computers in general than Firewire. While all Macs with USB 2.0 have Firewire, many Windows-based PCs only have USB 2.0.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

Go to your iTunes library. Create a new playlist (call it iPhone2 or some such name). Add some music (5 songs or so should do). Then, in the iPhone Music tab, deselect all music except the new playlist (iPhone2 for my example). Then synch. If this playlist synchs, you're good to go. You may now delete the new playlist (iPhone2) and reselect the music and playlists you actually want to sync.
