During the iPhone 2.0 upgrade my iTunes CAN NOT connect to the iTunes store. I flushed my DNS, restarted iTunes, restarted my phone. . .etc, etc. Stubbled upon a thread suggesting reinstalling iTunes. I uninstalled iTunes. . .BUT THE ITUNES DOWNLOAD PAGE IS BROKEN. So I can't download iTunes now.
This morning I updated to iPhone 2.0, however at the end of the update I got an error:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-9838). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."
Now my iPhone is bricked -- it comes up with the emergency 911 call option. This iPhone has never been tampered with nor any of the hacker software installed on it. Nonetheless right now my iPhone is useless except for calling 911.
Any ideas? This iPhone 2.0 software update has DEFINITELY not gone well!
NOTE: the iPhone in question is the original 4 GB model with the most recent 1.x update installed on it (well at least it was before this disaster of an update).
I'm posting this everywhere to try to get everyone to read it: MY PHONE IS WORKING
I just got off of the phone with iPhone tech support. (had to use my landline!)
After a 20 minute wait, I got to talk to Ashley. She said there are 1100 people on hold and everyone she talked to so far is having the same "accessing iTunes" problem.
She said DO NOT disconnect your phone. Intead, when you get the message saying it timed out, click ok. Then click on any other heading, Music for example, in your itunes. Then go back and click on your iPhone icon.
Keep doing this repeatedly to keep your place in line.
I did this for the past 10 minutes STRAIGHT through and I am now done!!! Honest to god! I dont know how to do screen shots or whatever, but I'm done.
FYI...I called off sick! I thought I was done earlier and was about to leave when the whole "accessing iTunes" debacle began!
been clicking about 10 minutes now, nothing. I can download apps from the store, even bought a SONG thinking I might get bumped up on the queue. Nothing. Good thing I have a conference call at 08:30, thanks apple!!
Thanks to the note from lappygirl who had called Apple, I tried the same good old clickety shuffle between iPhone and iTunes Store links -- after around 5 + minutes I got access to the iTunes Store and iPhone is no longer a brick. It is currently synching up and hopefully will be a happy iPhone once again.
finally got it to work. I left the phone connected and dismissed the error messages as they popped up, and selected other items in the itunes app and then re-selected the phone several times. It eventually got through after 45 minutes or so.
Your welcome to everyone who thanked me! It was really Ashley from the tech line! We should send her a fruit basket 😉
To people who disconnected, then reconnected, I'm not sure. I was too afraid to do that, so I didn't think to ask her when I was on the phone. You could call, but it's probably longer than the 15 mintue wait that I had endured.
For the people getting the "iPhone Activations are unavailable at this time. "please disconnect your iPhone and try again later" , I have no idea. Maybe the server really did crash?
Well I was just about to say screw it and go to bed, thinking my client will probably call and wake me up in a few hours anyway. But if I'm stuck on emergency calls only, then he can't call an wake me up. I guess I have to sit here a little longer.
