Unable to load provider data from Sync Services

I have upgraded to iTunes 7.7 and since I have every time I plug my iPod Touch in to sync I get the message "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later".

Has any one seen this? Also in the iPod info tab I now have no options in any of the dropdowns...

I think this is close. I did this and after a couple reboots and syncs the contacts tab filled in with contact groups and pull down had the google and yahoo stuff so it looked like it wanted to work.

I synced and nothing happened that I could tell, and then it all disappeared and I was back to square one. Well actually I was back to square -1 because now I tune just crashes trying to sync.

Here is a joke. Kid gets bag of horse doodoo for xmass. Kid is digging through doodoo. Parents ask why? Kid says "I know there is horse in here somewhere!!"

I say there is a real sync in this mess somewhere too, thanks for doing the digging.

I am having the same problem. I have 3 iTouch (Wife, son, and myself) and I use iTunes on 4 different computers. My office desktop, my office laptop, my home desktop, and home laptop. I have updated to iTunes 7 on both office pc's and have had nothing but problems ever since (sync services errors, lost album artwork, no ability to set up options in "info")

I have read this entire string and I am completely lost. I am a simpleton and have enjoyed (for years) the plug and play of ipods, I do not understand what was done to resolve this issue. Can someone translate the solution to simple english for me?

Look forward to a response.

On Tuesday, July 23rd, while running Running iTunes 7.7.0.43 I attempted to upgrade my iTouch which just came out of the box and was syncing fine, to 2.0. In doing so, I began to get a series of errors, some of which were in regards to Yahoo sync. I was able to remove the yahoo software but no matter what I did I still got a new error in a baby window which said, " 'iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from sync services." After this error was closed by selecting "OK" I had full functionality as far as syncing was concerned but still received this message regardless of if I was syncing my 3G iPhone or my new iTouch. Resolve was to uninstall all Apple products from my control panel and download iTunes. Then erase sync history (Click on EDIT pulldown menu> Select "Preferences" > Click on "Syncing" tab> Click on button labeled "Reset Sync History") and then reset the phone and itouch by holding down both buttons on the 3G iPhone and the iTouch and not letting go until I saw the gray apple. Then the error was gone. I hope this helps you. I uninstalled iTunes and a few Apple programs but it did not resolve the issue until I completely uninstalled everything Apple and reinstalled it which only took me about five minutes. Oh and if you have upgraded to Quick Time Pro, make sure to write down the serial number(which it will give you when you begin to uninstall) so that you do not loose the ability to upgrade back up. If you want to find the registration number before uninstalling quick time Pro you can go to the control panel on classic view, click on "Quick Time" and you will find the registration number on the "register" tab. I hope this helps you. Good luck. I feel your pain.

You can also go back and put that missing artwork back in by right clicking on a song and selecting "Get info" and clicking on "add" button and selecting the picture of the album cover you lost. You can find the cover art at amazon.com or on the web. Put the artwork on your desktop and select it. You could put your own picture in there if you wanted and make your favorites album cover list and your picture would appear on your iTouch screen when you flip through covers. Hope this helps Sir.

Just thought I'd add another post - misery loves company. I have been fruitlessly trying to get my Outlook to sync. The most frustrating thing is there's no consistency to the problem - save for the fact that the sync NEVER completes. Sometimes Contacts sync, Calendar never syncs. I've spent over 5 hours on the phone w/Apple tech support who basically have me uninstalling and reinstalling everything (iTunes, Outlook, etc.)

I FINALLY got to an Apple Store and got a new iPhone (not the new 3G, and older 8 gig) which is still running the pre 2.0 software and I'm STILL getting the "Unable to load..." error. Hitting "rest sync history" seems to solve that and iTunes acknowledges that I have Outlook but when I go to sync it just syncs eternally and never completes.

I wish there was a solution but there seems to be core changes in the way that iTunes/iPhone works with Outlook and no one at Apple seems to be doing anything about it - and what's worse - they seem to point to Outlook as the problem!

I am afraid that I have to "upgrade" to a Blackberry tomorrow. It's not what i want to do but I haven't the energy to keep trying to fight this problem.

I think? I fixed it. I installed Itunes on my clean laptop and it all worked. So I cleaned up my desktop and got it to work.

0) Backup your Outlook contacts, assume it will be destroyed
1) Remove all apple programs (mobile support, update and Itunes)
2) Delete C:\Documents and Settings\endrizzi\Application Data\Apple Computer
3) Reinstall
4) Re-plug in iPhone and startup Itunes

Waaaala the error goes away. And it doesn't screw up my contacts with double entries and deleting entries into lala land on both sides.

There are some quirks I still haven't figured out
1) Doesn't sync calendar entries correctly it drops some entries not sure why
2) It sync'd my laptop contacts perfectly, but on my desktop I'm don't think the contacts are syncing. Try using "Replace information on iPhone", not sure. Make sure you compare contact totals (iPhone located at bottom of contacts). Work in progress.
3) I had to sync a couple times before it found my Outlook groups

Basically, I'll give it a D+ which is disappointing for Apple Software.

Best O Luck

Well, I tried everything that was posted in this forum and I can't still get it to work ...

On Step 3, I tried to re-install iTunes and it says that I have another installation going ... I'm so confused now! What do I do now?

BTW, I lost all my contacts and my music. I'm not really worried about the music, honestly. I have all my music on a separate hard drive. 🙂 I still have my pictures though.

I just want Apple to get this fixed!!!

Jul 26, 2008 2:48 PM in response to dmanmn

Basically, I followed dmanmn's formula. I'm running an iPhone (using 2.0 but not 3G -- mine's still on order), MacBook Pro (Leopard), Parallels, Windows XP (sp3) and Outlook 2007. I've spent hours with Apple Tech Support (useless), uninstalled & reinstalled, (also useless). But dmanmn's recipe worked for me. I think the order of the steps is what's critical:

1) Backup Outlook (who can afford to loose 1400 contacts?)
2) Uninstall iTunes
3) Uninstall Apple Update
4) Uninstall Apple Mobile Support
5) Delete C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Apple Computer\SyncServices (and all files in that directory -- yours may not be in the \Administrator subdirectory)
6) Reboot
7) Reinstall iTunes
8) Start iTunes and plug in your iPhone
9) Here's the key -- I got the dreaded "Unable to load provider data..." so I quit iTunes and was about to try the whole freakin process again, but remembered that I should probably reset the sync history (Edit > Preferences > Syncing Reset Sync History), so I restarted iTunes intending to do that and...

THERE WAS NO "Unable to load provider data..." message on the second start of iTunes, and...

ON THE INFO TAB, Outlook showed up in the drop down boxes and all my email accounts showed up as well.

10) I always set iTunes for manual sync in case I want to change a setting, when I selected SYNC, it told me that my iPhone was set to sync with another profile and asked if I wanted to reset it to sync with the current profile. I selected YES
11) iTunes then gave me the choice of merging data or overwriting the iPhone with the data on my computer... I chose the overwrite.
12) The sync started and ran all the way through successfully (Outlook contacts, calendar, 4 mail accounts as well as music, photos).
13) Just to make sure I wasn't a "one sync wonder", I disconnected, shut down iTunes, rebooted Windows, restarted iTunes and plugged in my iPhone and...

IT WORKED AGAIN (another big Woo Hoo).

This time it told me there were purchased files on the iPhone that were not in my iTunes library and asked if I wanted to sync those. With great fear I selected YES and it then sync'd the Apps I've bought since the App Store opened.

I have found two problems. One I've worked around reliable, the other I found a work around, but it's not reliable.

Re: "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later"

I found his often works: Acknowledge the message, and sync anyway. Then without ejecting or unplugging the iPhone, quit and relaunch iTunes. Often, the dreaded message doesn't return, and the iPhone mounts normally.

The other problem has to do with calendar syncing. I have found that if you put end dates on all your recurring appointments, you can sync your calendar quickly and (it appears) reliably. At least it's been working quite well since yesterday, and I've now synced over a dozen times.

Oooops. Just like Apple developers I mistyped and screwed up.

7.7.1 not 7.1.1

So Death Message first popped up, I ack'd it and then synced. All the sync forms filled in properly.

I synched calendars and WALLLAAAA, calendars now work.

I decided to go for the gold and sync contacts "replace iphone" option. The good news is it didn't destroy my contacts in outlook like in the past. The bad news is that I now have 25% duplicates on my iphone. Looks like they need to fix the "replace" option.

I'll upgrade from D+ to C+

Thanks for the potential solutions. I was able to get my sync working again.

1) Renamed the .db file as suggested in a previous post with no luck.
2) Performed the "reset sync history" in iTunes
- Still got the error message the first time after the reset
- then it started sync'ing again

I forgot to undo the first change (file rename) before going to 2) so no idea if this had something to do with the overall solution.

Thanks,
Brett
