Could not activate cellular data network

Hi all

I have a new iPhone 3G using a monthly contract.
I am able to successfully make telephone calls and use SMS and wireless internet.
However, if I leave my wireless network and try and connect to the internet or email over "3G" then i get the following window pop-up error "Could not activate cellular data network".

Anyone know why ?

Iphone 3G, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

So finally got a call from Orange (coming from outside Switzerland) and, believe it or not, they fix my problem. The guy called me and knew (since before) what my problem was without knowing exactly my problem.This means that we all should have a standard setting for the iphone. I do not understand why it resets suddenly. But in any case best way to go...contact your operator support deparment (the IT guys...not the ones that reads the answers in a paper).

Conclusion: as it is a new phone not all employees, in the support department, know the answer to this issue. Let's say you were lucky and they did set your configuration correctly: turn it off, take out your sim card, put it in again and restart. Your problem should be gone by then!

hi. just fixed this problem. UK, 1st gen iphone with version 2.0. using t-mobile network. I think this solution will only work if you are using t-mobile in the uk, not sure...

go to: settings > general > network > cellular data network

...and enter the following in the fields:

APN - general.t-mobile.uk
Username - tmobile
Password - tm

I am using an authorized unblocked version from NZ and using CHT as my carrier in Taiwan.
It happened to me once as 2.0.1 and it went right back to normal when just turn off and on one time.
Yesterday it came to me again with 2.0.2 and when I start my pinball, my iPhone 3g freeze and few seconds later, I couldn't use any data network since then.
I am currently roaming in Korea, but same setting worked fine 2 weeks ago and yesterday morning.

Anyone can help, and since my carrier doesn't know anything about iPhone 3g at all.....
