Could not activate cellular data network

Question

Could not activate cellular data network

Hi all

I have a new iPhone 3G using a monthly contract.
I am able to successfully make telephone calls and use SMS and wireless internet.
However, if I leave my wireless network and try and connect to the internet or email over "3G" then i get the following window pop-up error "Could not activate cellular data network".

Anyone know why ?

Iphone 3G, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

I have the same problem, no internet connection outside of Wifi. Good to know I'm not the only one.

Not sure if you've tried this/it'll work for you, but I had the same problem here in the U.S. I have Edge/3G up and running yesterday morning and it was dead by last night for some reason. I went to Settings > General > Network Settings > Reset Network Settings.

Now both are working flawlessly. Good luck mates

I had that problem on Friday. I decided to turn my phone off then on again and the problem went away. I haven't had the problem since.

Same trouble in Oz with Optus... try this... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2283?viewlocale=en_US need to call customer care to get access to this part of the firmware but it worked 100%

telstra fixed the above: i bought the phone outright (without a iphone plan) and as a result they needed to change something at their end. Happy now 🙂

telstra rang to see how I was going with the iphone.

They gave me the setting for the APN - needs to be telstra.internet

now works fine

Same problem here , Elizabeth - New Jersey , I try to reset networks and on off IPHONe but nothing #G is down BOOMER

How does customer support let you change the APN settings? My phone is locked to Orange so the Menu item is not visable.

Had the same problem here in the UK - decided to try a reset too - but my route to it was a little different to Matts, so thouoght I'd add it in here:

I went to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Phone restarted, sync'd with iTunes and Bingo! working as it's supposed to :0D
