I am trying to burn musing that I have bought from iTunes to backup my purchase and I am automatically defaulting to my D drive which is not working. How can I change it to another drive that also is a burner?

I got the exact same problem. Just bought a new burner (LG) to replace the old one (Yamaha), but iTunes still thinks I have the Yamaha when I look to the prefs/advance tabs.

Margaret, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you have multiple CD devices in your system, you control which one iTunes uses from iTunes Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Burning tab. If you have multiple devices, the first entry on that section should show a pop-up list letting you choose your preferred burning device.

I have this same problem, just replaced a DVD-ROM drive with a DVD/CD burner and Itunes isn't seeing it. The Preferences-> Advanced tab -> Burning tab does not show a drop down menu of my two drives, instead it has chosen my other drive (a slower CD burner) as the default burner and it will not allow me to change it. Any other suggestions? Please let me know if you find a solution to this problem.
Jeffrey,
Let's "repair" the iTunes install. This process gives iTunes a chance to redetect the new burner.
* quit iTunes
* open Windows Control Panel
* double-click "Add or Remove Programs" item
* locate iTunes in that list and click "Change/Remove" button
* The iTunes installer program launches, and should display an option of "Repair" or "Remove", choose Repair
* Follow the rest of the on screen instructions
* Try iTunes again, and check the Burning area to see if it sees the new drive.

When I go to the Advanced tab, it shows that I only have the D: drive and there is not drop down box to select alternate drives. Besides my CD burner, I have a DVD reader and CD burner installed as drive E, plus an external DVD writer that will read/write to CD's or DVD's.
The same for me. I replaced my DVD-ROM drive with a DVD/CD burner and I tunes isn't seeing it. I tried to change the drive as suggested above, but I also don't have the drop down option. I tried the repair, and it didn't work either. I need a different fix. Thanks
I too bought a CD burner and ran into problems. the IOMEGA USB DVD/CD burner is not recognized in System Profile as a disc burning drive. The entry says: disc burning not supported. At first I thought that it was because my old G4's USB had too little transfer rate so I bought a card to remedy that. the card did not solve my problem either. Even though Roxio's Toast 6 sees by burner if I put a clean disc in the butner it gets kicked out with the message: disc burning not supported. I am able to burn a disc with the software that came with the burner, it is called Discribe. Nut using iTunes 5 to butn is no possible. I'd like to replace iTunes period since it is terrible in managing my files but if I do that I cannot connect to my iPod. I use Virtual PC 7 to run Win XP but it is way too slow to adequately run Jukebox. I may have to buy a Windows PC again if I'm to do what I really want. It seems like such waste of resources. If anyone can help I'd like to hear from you.
I may have found some help in the iTunes forum that could solve my problem and that of some of you guys. I'm posting this before I restart so I don't forget. Here's a link to a possible patch:

I hope it works!

Thanks for the help, but I'm windows XP. Your patch is for Mac.
I'm sorry that it will not work for you.
It certainly solved my problem.
Anybody out there with a Mac and similar problem as mine may find my solution will work for them. I'm just glad this time consuming ordeal is over.
Good luck!

MacMuse,
I tried what you asked but after 'repoairing Itunes' the problem remained. Only the older burner showed with no drop down box. I then attempted to uninstall and then reinstall Itunes. Same result. An y other suggestions? I am honestly at my wits end with Itunes as it seems with each new release, it becomes more and more buggy.

Jeffrey,
Next option to try is resetting your preference files. iTunes actually has two of them. Start by quitting iTunes. Open "My Computer", make sure "view hidden files" is enabled in Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab. Search for "iTunes.pref" and delete both of them.
Startup iTunes again, and check the burner tab to see if both are available.
