iPhone Back Ordered

Ok here is some good news and bad news combined into one. It depends on how you want to look at it. Go to the at&t order status page. Use the zip code for your order and then subtract one number at a time from your order number to see previous orders and when they were fulfilled. Example: your status may be 34525, so the look up 34524, then 34523, then 34522 and so on. Maybe even skip a few numbers to see what was the last order that was fulfilled.

Ordered mine Wednesday 7/16 from ATT in MA. At first I was excited because there were no lines and they were handing out iphones but then I realized they had all been preordered on the July 11th. The ATT manager said he was expecting the 2 I ordered to be there in 10-21 days. I have a tracking order number and presently it states still in progress. Hopefully will ship soon.

There's a 600 page thread on AT&T's forums regarding their failure to deliver iPhones ordered through them.

In reference to the experiences people are sharing there, I think an accurate estimate would be 3 weeks. And you're not going to be able to rely on any tracking until it's actually shipped. AT&T are apparently not maintaining their database, or are otherwise being deceitful about order status.

i noticed that as well. it just happened today around 12 pm cst...i was playing with the search engine earlier this morning and it was working. the IT departement must have figured out what people were doing. i read about this feature on the at&t forums.

AT&T tracking is back up and actually has more options. I ordered on the 16th and still waiting. Currently shows phone is NOT backordered but it has gone back and forth all week. Maybe this time it will ship!

i just checked and yep the site is back up now. i hope your are right and we'll get our phones soon. i just got off the phone with the rep at the at&t store who sold me my phone. she gave me her cell number and she told me that they received an email that apple will now start sending out more phones to at&t stores. i also went back and checked other orders. many that were placed after me have already shipped. i am guessing this is for other type of phones and not iphones. (well at least i hope that is the reason.)

i asked her about me going to an apple store and buying the phone there. she said the store would not sell me an iphone because i already started an account with at&t. i ported my number over to at&t from sprint so i have to wait for my DF to go through. again she thinks i'll get my phone very soon, but there really is no telling when that is going to happen.

That's a great trick, changing the order number. I also found out that a guy I work with has one on back order.... Anywho, I think it is a little strange that the average ship time in my area seems to be around 10 days (from shipper to customer, not to the store). However, there are very few orders fulfilled per day, certainly not enough to make the order numbers make sense as a forecast tool. I'm around 70 numbers from the top and on day 6 of my wait. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

i even did a little extra work. i created a simple spreadsheet with order numbers. i then made a column for the day it was ordered and then another column for the date it was shipped. according to my calculations there are 23 phones ahead of me. can you tell i'm anxious to get my phone? but yes average delivery/shipping time is 10 days. so i am guessing that my phone will ship by the 26th.

Takes a long while to ship because they ship directly from China or Hong Kong. I ordered the dock form apple.com and shipping is like 10 business days, checked the tracking and it is being shipped directly from hong kong.

Black 16g 3G's ordered after July 15 taking 10-21 days delivery... White 3G's taking 72-hr's. And they are coming in at the 11th hour... and their tracking site will show it back ordered up until that time, so don't waste you time and energy frustrating yourself.

I experienced the same vacillation on their tracking site... backordered one day, off backorder the next... any 16g iPhone (other than white which is delivered in 72-hrs), ordered after July 14 will take 10-21 days... email was sent to AT&T stores notifying them of this. Don't waste your time checking ship status until day 20 and save yourself frustrations... trust me I know

Speaking of "accessories"... word is the new (slimmer) Jawbone that they show working in a construction site with noise cancelation on... while one of the best noise cancelation bluetooth headsets has a higher return rate than last years Jawbone which is bulkier in size. Trade off is size... but it is almost half the cost if you can get past the size. If there are any actual "new" jawbone bluetooth users out there with a different take on it, please speak up

Well shows backordered again.

I debated a long time whether or not to wait for the new Blackberry or go with an iPhone and wish now I had not ordered the iPhone. I got suckered into the Apple BS. The 20 or so other phones on our business account will not be renewed with iPhones, maybe not AT&T. If they can't supply a phone when ordered they likely cannot provide any other customer service when needed. Order #32157

JMPEARLAND! Thanx soooo much dude, GOOD INFO!! I ordered my White 16GB on the 23rd.. I see another order "ordered" that same day & is due for delivery on the 25th... My phone is #20 purchases away from that order with no tracking information but I assume Monday at the latest... This is good because the lady at the store told me it was taking about 3 days for 16GB's

no problem bro! take a look at the tracking numbers as well. you will notice that fedex is even picking them up at night. i am very close to getting the phone shipped to me. i am less than 15 phones away. plus remember they also ship phones on saturday.
