Screen won't rotate when iphone 3G is tilted

I believe it doesn't rotate for those. I think the keypad only tilts for safari.

No rotation for mail.

same issue here. it's definitely not a hardware issue because the sensor feature works on apps that use it and also works on the ipod, but isn't working on anything else. 😟

the screen will not rotate for mail,only for ipod and safari. you can do it for the pictures too.

As stated by a previous poster, the rotation feature is only an option in Safari, Photos, iPod and Calculator. Are all of those working properly?

For me the screen rotation also doesn't work like it's supposed to work. When I open safari the screen rotates to the right. When I turn my iphone back again it doesn't rotate the screen back. Also when I first rotate it to the left it rotates to the right. A friend of mine who has the itouch with firmware 2.0 can rotate normally.
My firmware version is 5A345 I heared that 5A347 is out but according to itunes I already have the latest version.
Anybody familiar with the problem?

No, but from what I heard 5A347 is meant for the 3g, although it's the version I have and mine is a 1st gen. I downloaded mine as a .zip and installed it manually.

I have the 3G, should I update to 5A347? If so, how can I update if itunes is telling me that I have the latest version?

I got mine as a leaked copy a day early from Mac Rumors but the link was "removed by request of apple". <Edited by Moderator>


But I never went through and "re-updated" to the correct version, so I have no idea if it'll matter, you might just restore.

P.S. the version that link goes to is supposed to be 5A347, I downloaded but never installed.

Make sure you are holding your iPhone up vertically, the tilt sensor won't work if your phone is horizontal.

these users also have this problem. I hope it's not a sensor (hardware) problem because all the iphones are sold out so I can't switch it for a new one!

In my opinion if it is a software bug than everybody should have this issue right?

I have the same problem on a 8GB iPhone bought in Belgium. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Apple and all they said is "bring it back to the store where you bought it". There, they sent it for repair "this will take 3 weeks to 1 month", they said. I'm really ****** off. (Of course, they have never heard of this issue).
