iPhone 2.0 software and Bluetooth

I am sooo disappointed in the new software. I've successfully used my first generation iPhone with software 1.1.4 with my new Dodge uConnect system ($1,500 sound and bluetooth). Until today.

Upgraded my iPhone to version 2.0. Upgrade failed and got repeated error codes through iTunes. No big deal, I was on my way to Apple store to buy new 3G phone. 5 hours later, have new phone, and apple specialist fixed the original. New phone unable to use with uConnect. It pairs, but doesn't find the phone (?). Called Apple. They said they don't support auto bluetooth devices. (nice to know). Gave 3G phone to son, reactivated my original phone to me - still does not work.

Here I am $500 and one full day later and now there are TWO phones that won't connect to my system. PLEASE FIX THE BLUETOOTH!!!

I was about to rip the uConnect rear view mirror off and throw my iPhone out the window I was so ****** when it didn't work yesterday, yet it was "Paired". I am glad to see this positing is up, and I too tried everything to fix it. This feature is critical to me, and even law in California now, not exactly a wise thing for Apple to mess up. I use the uConnect feature solely when taking in my truck and will have to dump my iPhone for another phone. *****, I was an original iPhone customer from the day it was released.

I posted earlier because my Uniden Bluetooth phone system here at home will no longer work with iPhone 2. I am an original iPhone user, as well, but just bought the iPhone 3G. My Jawbone (original) works just fine with it and even lets me listen to the visual voice mail when others say they cannot with other BT headsets. My point is, perhaps that could be an option for you until Apple stops giving us all the mushroom treatment regarding this BT issue and fixes it?

I also purchased a Plantronics Discovery 925 headset and used it with a 2 year old Motorola cell phone w/o a problem. I really like the sound quality and the comfort of the head set. I brought my iPhone 3G and paired the Plantronics Discovery 925 headset with it. I do not remember anything unussual happening during the pairing. The head set seems to work pretty well with the phone. However, I can not get voicemail to played through the headset. I am extremely disappointed by this and expect that Apple will come up with a software patch ASAP to fix this. It is a glaring deficiency of the functionality of the phone.

Aside from that I like the iPhone functionality quite well.

Same here. 1st Generation iPhone user. My wife and I both used BlueTooth just fine with NO ISSUES. I upgraded to 2.0 on Monday, and now Bluetooth is broken. Phone pairs fine, but when I try to make a call my BlueTooth in 2008 Jeep Liberty UConnect says "Phone not Available". After deleting my phone entirely and adding it back and repairing, it still did not work, so I gave up and just used my phone manually. What is weird is that while using my phone, my bluetooth suddenly picked up and started working. 1st generation had NO ISSUES .. Now I am stuck with a UConnect System in my Jeep that I can not use. Apple - Please fix this issue.

I have an original iPhone ... and every since I put the new 2.0 update on it, it no longer works with my 2008 Dodge Ram with U connect and I also have a Jawbone (for my other vehicles) that rarely works now. Apple just gave me a replacement iPhone to resolve these issues, and everything worked perfect again ............ until a few hours later when I got home and put the new software on it. Now I'm back to the same thing ... Please help!!!

How does one get Apple to respond to any of this. I'm from California and the hands free thing is the law now as it is in other states. Seems as though they would respond to such a safety issue.

i am wondering if these cars software for bluetooth is not prepared for a 3G phone
i have had no problem with my merc. S550.HOWEVER, i am using 2.0 on my original. infact it is performing better than ever.
this is all happening whilst Merc. does not support the IPHONE in their phone support
Pretty funny!
Meanwhile the dumber thing is that you can't get these phones and if they are available you have to wait in line for hrs. If they were offering cures for HIV/Aids or other important items..makes sense BUT for a phone..Give me a break & i am an Apple shareholder!!
get them out and sell them fast before all these glitches slow down sales!!

I am doing just that, using my Jawbone. However, that too caused problems as the uConnect took over the Jawbone as primary device when I was in my truck even though it does not work it still pairs. So, I had to delete the iPhone from the uConnect list and now at least I can us the Jawbone.

This is totally Apple's doing, I have the original iPhone with 2.0 so it's not like there is some new hardware that outdates my uConnect. This is a 2.0 firmware issue that needs to be fixed. Frankly I am looking forward to the new Blackberry Bold is this issue is not fixed. I am on my 4th iPhone under warranty due to display failures, so it's far from perfect, but such a great fit for me otherwise as a die hard Mac user. I use every aspect of the iPhone, and must have the uConnect feature too.

Hi!

It's not an iPhone problem - the iPhone does work with handsfree protocol (i.e. headsets), but NOT sim access protocol. Also, DO NOT upgrade to firmware 2.0. I did that and it rogered my iPhone 1.0's bluetooth connection to the COMAND system in my Merc (working fine on 1.1.4).
If you have 'upgraded' to firmware 2.0 you'll have to hack the phone to downgrade it to 1.1.4 until Apple sorts this out (if ever). The 3G iPhone won't work as it runs 2.0 and you can't roll back to 1.1.4.

Hope this helps. I hear BMW drivers are having problems with firmware 2.0 as well.

P.S. I didn't tell you to hack your phone... OK. You might iBrick it!

Same problem as everyone else.... upgrade to 2.0 and new 3G doesn't (rarely) work. People in the apple store don't know anything. They are mostly useless. The average enthusiast who has been with Apple some time knows more than them. I have not been this disappointed in Apple since they eliminated lifetime tech support. I will always hold that against them. Is there anyone from Apple monitoring these boards. Can the company at least acknowledge this problem.

I have a new 2008 Dodge Ram. I'm having the same problem. I called my dodge dealer and they gave me a number to Uconnect. (877) 855-8400. I called them and the customer agent told me they new about the problem and were working with Apple on a fix. He didn't give a time frame but he did say that the fix would come from them in the form of a cd that you will have to get from your dealer to intall new software. Everyone I talked to at the dealership and Uconnect told me there was no way to inform me of when the cd is out so I am forced to call the dealership every couple of days to find out if the cd is in. It seems like Chrysler, Uconnect, or Apple could put up a web site to acknowledge the problem and keep us informed on when a fix is available.

I have a "Blue Ant" that Radio Shack swears is the best possible walk around BT device as the sound quality is good even in a convertible. It will connect to the iPhone 3G and then lose the connection, then not find the BT device, etc.

So it has the same problems as everyone has reported here with automobile BT. The fix will have to come from Apple and the iPhone software will then be 2.1.

Hopefully, it is not an iPhone hardware issue combined with the software. But until the programmers at Apple figure this out, we all are stuck with a phone held up to our ears. What I want to know is, how could the beta testers for 3G iPhone 2.0 NOT have found out this BT problem?

I too have the same problem with my Jeep Patriot and UConnect. A Palm Treo 680 works fine as well as the old iPhone 1.1.4 software.

I'll be reporting this to a local news agency to see if we can get some air time. Apple was so big in promoting their new phone, I think we should use the media to apply some presure. Why should Apple only get good press when they've been so unresponsive to a major flaw in their product.

Stay tuned!!!
