FCE 3.5 Firepod connection problems

Has anyone had this problem. I've been working on a video for several weeks. My set up includes a G5 and a Presonus Firepod with powered monitors. I also use Logic Express so the Firepod is my main sound device. Things have been working great until a few days ago when the sound stopped coming from my Firepod and only through the built in audio. the audio for other apps works through the FP but FCE still plays through the built in audio. Very frustrating. I can't seem to find anything in the book or help section one how to be able to select the sound device in FCE. any suggestions?

G5, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

The only places I can think of is System Preferences>Sound or View>Video Out>Refresh Video Devices. In the Video Out choices there are a number of settings that effect firewire devices and how they connect, you might jag the right setting there!

There are some settings that can be adjusted in the Tools>Voice Over tool but that's for incoming audio. Might be worth a try.
Trashing the FCE preferences will reset FCE to it's original state, so that may sort it. Repairing permissions and a re-boot are also things that won't hurt.

Otherwise???
