You can’t charge the iPhone 3G on iPod Audio Systems

First I want to say that my experience purchasing an iPhone at an Apple Store in Pittsburgh, PA was excellent. All has gone well, except for the following problem:

I tried to connect my new 3G iPhone to my car audio system just as I did with my previous iPod Touch and, before that, my iPod mini. I was surprised that I got a message that my new iPhone was not compatible with the charging system. I thought it was something strange I might have been doing, until I saw this post on Apple Gazette:

I have this exact same problem. Cannot charge on previous iPod charging systems! Apple or someone else, please help. This is an extremely odd connection problem We'll likely need some help from Apple on this one.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Yes, I would pay to have this iphone adapter that would enable charging from home audio equipment as well as my car adapter (without loosing any functionality from being able to control my iphone songs from my steering wheel).

In fact, I would need to buy at least three...two for inside my home for audio equipment and 1 for my car.

whoever releases this adapter first will maximize profit before others start to make them.

Well there are some of us who have dock cables that work in conjunction with our car radios/nav systems. What it essentially does is allow us to select our music through the steering wheel controls and also charge at the same time. Purchasing another charger cable like the pass though from kensington is one work around but its unwanted clutter. The ideal solution is to have the existing cable and an adapter piece between the cable and the iphone. Yes there is one that is slated for release at the end of the sept, but its a bit pricey.

hey everyone

i read through your posts. i see alot of you have problems charging your iphone3G to various ipod audio systems.

i have a different question.

i tried connecting it to my Bluetooth Car Kit ( i have a Fiat Punto Grande model 2008) the brand of the car kit is called Blue and Me.

after plugging in the iphones USB cable to my carkit it beeped but did not connect or charge or play the music i had on my iphone.

does anyone have any IDEA on why this is and HOW i can possibly fix the problem.

NOTE: my carkit DOES work with my ipod NANO however

thanks

katie
