Thanks again for your work! It took forever to uninstall and then reinstall I even had to let it continue overnight then had to do a restore on my morning reboot then then then. Oy.
Now I just did my first sync after all that, even with 40+ apps, it took maybe 5 minutes! 🙂
I assume if I add an app from iTunes, the long sync will return the first time. That will slow me down on new stuff till they fix it. I have enough to keep me busy and I made sure all were up to date. Wow!

Seemed to be overall the NUMBER of apps. I started getting slow again. So I redid the above and got tough. I'm down to 17 apps and it seems OK for now. This is a very unstable platform, for now. After 2.1 or whatever is coming we'll reevaluate. Having come from Windows Mobile 5 - 6 - 6.1, I know unstable. I find it amazing that with 6.1 my Dash was rock solid and that is when I leave. I'm a born beta tester! Of course I just started Mobile Me and am having other issues, but that's in another thread... 😉

Okay, I followed all the instructions above, about deleting all the apps.
I did have one corrupt one left on my phone...removed it manually and reinstalled all of them with the instructions about.

Instead of 40 minutes...it cut it down to 25 to 30. Still too long in my opinion. Can any one think of anything else I can try???? I am only running 10 apps on my phone.

I am getting real PO a but all the problems that my Iphone is having, I don't understand why it takes 45 mins to back up the data that i have on the phone. APPLE FIX THE PROBLEM ALREADY!!!!!!!!
We apple fans pay through the noise for products at less you guys can do it fix ONE of the problems that your supporters are having with the phone.

Come on i always hated apple until i bought the first Iphone that came out over one year ago now, i can say that i have a 17" inch macbook pro so I'm not a windows fan that just wants to bash your products, but I'm starting to miss my window's mobile

Well then this solution is a non-starter for me. I have data in my iPhone apps that I can't afford to lose.

Does anyone have a solution that preserves app data?

My backups are about 15 minutes or less with 66 apps installed on my iPhone now. The only thing I've done is never cancel a backup and always put the device into airplane mode when I sync (to prevent any calls from canceling the backup). Sometimes a backup will take up to 40 minutes, but it's not that often.

To preserve app data...there is no solution. Apple is going to have to provide it for us. I'm with you though...I refuse to delete all my apps and start reinstalling them. Losing app data is not acceptable for me, given the number of apps that I use that store their own information that would be lost in the process.

I still won't give it up but:

SSSLLLOOOOWWW backups. A few apps, a few songs, contacts should not equal one hour backup

Reception for calls is below par. Wife has a T-Mobile (GSM just like the iPhone) Blackberry and when I have one bar she usually has four.

Calls dropping more and more.

My 3G phone cannot stay connected to the internet while switching towers (cells). Internet times out. This really only happens when I am moving.

Worst camera of any phone I know.

Sigh, but I till don't want to give it up....

Apple PLEASE fix this phone/software
